Well my famous generico el-cheapo power supply died today along with the motherboard. Apparently something in the power supply broke causing it to not regulate the power correctly. This fryed the motherboard. I took some voltage readings and things that were suppose to be 3.3 were at 6 about and 5 volts were at 10 and 12 volts (for p4 connector) were at 15.

Fortantly (and i somehow got extremely lucky) it appears that all the components except for the motherboard, power supply and cpu (maybe) are working. I tested them on another computer. Thus my bill for replacement will be a wee tad less.

So anyway what im thinking here is getting an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle and an Abit motherboard. It would be an improvement of my current (dead) system, regardless of being dead.

Also looking at an Antec Case because i heard they are good and have good power supplies. I am a wee bit leery of generic no name brand stuff right now.

P.S. I also believe that the psu may have been the problem child causing other problems earlier such as hd problems, corrupted bios rom (i know thats not suppose to happen), and now dead mobo.

P.P.S. Ill someday get back to working on my os again...someday when the problems cease to exist with my system.
