Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I am looking to offload the forum and the osfaq wiki to another person/host..
Ive little to no time to spend on either right now and going forward.
It dont want to hand it over to some fly by night thing either that goes up then disappears after a week.
I'll be gone for two weeks so, plenty of time for people to think it over. (i'm not implying i am gonna close either down!)...
they dont use much bandwidth, and I will make available the board + osfaq as raw MySQL dumps, which can be filtered into what ever other format you want. obviously I am running yabbse and phpwiki....
you dont have to host both the faq+forum either...
dont send me any private messages, i wont be here to answer them...
I dont plan on taking either down, but id _really_ like to find both a new home....
osdever.net seems to go up and down like a yoyo and from where I am, a seriously slow connection...

Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I have 10gb a month, and only use about 1gb each month. Which means around 9GB of bandwidth unused. So as long as the bandwidth is lower than that I could probably host the forum for you.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I'm running around doing last minute bits right now, but I'll see if I can get some stats on th ebandwidth.

Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
bandwidth looks more than I thought.. and stupid thing only gives me stats by week..
so.. 726,838,354 is 690mb sent that week.. and the 932 is 889mb sent that week (1/23/05)...
that gives an idea...
Code: Select all
date accesses bytes sent visits
01/23/05 363,150 932,833,008 5,986
01/30/05 243,207 882,148,538 7,074
02/06/05 239,698 678,452,056 6,213
02/13/05 366,995 857,272,460 6,271
02/20/05 311,179 812,017,939 6,386
02/27/05 352,617 726,838,354 6,766
that gives an idea...

Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I'm checking with a good friend of mine who's running a dedicated server with quite some bandwidth allowance (having a browser game running on it). He's aware of the OS-FAQ and might adopt it on his server, where I could do the administration with more or less no holds barred.
We'll have lunch together tomorrow; I'll get back to you.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
So that's around 3GB(rounded) a month or less... well based on the 01/23/05 stat times 4 weeks. So if that's the case I have more than enough bandwidth to host it.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
Well, if it's OK for you, Chris, I'll just as happily pass. I'd have done the maintenance to keep the thing alive, but it's not like I'm suffering boredom from lack of projects asking for attention already.

Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I know nothing about the osfaq or wiki so not sure if I would be suited to host that thing or not. But I am definatly qualified to host the forums considering that I have owned a YaBBSE forum, own a SMF forum, have created my own forum system, and worked on the YaBBSE team, and now work on the SMF team. So I know how to run and maintain them.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
AFAIK the maintenance of the OSFAQ boils down to occasionally being there to restore a backup and/or to fix it again. Just the basic SQL backup/restoring. Don't think there's much context-stuff in it, except for restoring some pages. If you need any help, I think most people here would be glad to help with those things.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I've used the PhpWiki engine for quite some time, both on webservers and my desktop machine, and will happily assist in setting it up and keeping it running.
Contact me by PM or [email protected] if in need of help.

Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
I think Chris'd be best for this. He's in touch with all parts of the community, which helps tremendously for hosting the forum (can't ignore the AGI and SCI community here and only look at the OS dev part ) If there's ever contents-related trouble, he can just ask on the forums. I'm sure everybody'd be glad to answer any questions he's got.
Re:Forum + OSFAQ need new homes.....
What, there's content here besides OS-DEV?
(Seriously, I never visited those other three forums...)
