Icon Changer

Does anyone know a good icon changer program? For that matter does anyone know a good icon maker program? I've downloaded a few but none are good yet. Which program did people use to put the icons on either Enclosure or SQ0? Those seem to do the trick.

Thanks,
Rich

They asked Nick to do it for them. Sent him the icon to change it to and he changed it.

google for resource editors. there are LOTS of resource editors. its a piece of cake to add/remove an icon from a windows app.

Wonderful. :-[ That means I have to do the same. I guess it's always easier to change an icon when you're working with the source material. I tried using a couple icon changer programs so far that I've found on google, and none of them yet were able to swap out my new icon for the old one on the NAGI executable.

Well, If I'm going to e-mail Nick, I better finish my icons first.

Thanks, guys.

As for actually drawing icons, I think the best method is to simply take your default image manipulation program be that PhotoShop, Gimp or whatever, and draw the icon with that, then convert it to suitable format afterwards.

Yeah, I've used Photoshop, with an .ico plug-in, in order to draw the icon, which works pretty well. I've used another program to integrate the various size icons together, 64x64, 32x32, 16x16, etc. Now, I just need a way to put this icon on programs, in particular NAGI... hopefully without bothering Nick S. I remember the old days of Macintosh (early 90's) when all I had to do was load ResEdit in order to change an icon. Gone are those days. So, if anyone knows a good program to change icons, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, I'll just ask Nick to integrate it for me from the bottom level.
I'm doing icons for both FQ and FQ2.

Lots of games seem to be getting finished lately :o Got to do some more work on mine too then, although it's coming along nicely. Anyways, that's off-topic. G'luck with the icons :)

Well, bother is bother... I don't want to bother... if it is a fine enough thing for you than that is cool... why not the full name though? Is this a sort of guest login?

I've tried a couple icon changers I've found from google and none of them worked. In fact, one of them changed my registry and my whole desktop... (which is very annoying), but it still didn't work! Actually, I got one to work, but then the NAGI program itself didn't run the game anymore. Anyone else have a specific program in mind? I can't release my game until I've dealt with this.

I recently downloaded a free (30 day) trial version of something by Axialis.
It's a complete and fairly comprehensive Icon Design Studio -it will let you directly edit *.exe's as well as make or edit *.ico icon files or *.icl Icon Libraraires.

However with the exe's it will only let you alter existing ones, not add new ones, or edit the icon type (ie size/colours). For that, create a *.ico and then use:
"reshack" - just google on that name.

I can't remember Axialis' actual web site - but it shouldn't be hard to find and then just look for Icon studio.

I have successfully added an Icon set to my copy of the NAGI interpreter - so I know it works with those two programs.

Perhaps I'm just a moron here somehow. I used ResHack and it successfully replaced the icon files of the NAGI executable. However, the executable no longer worked at that point. It gave two runtimes errors indicating "The application failed to initialize properly..." blah, blah, blah. I had this problem once before when another program had successfully altered the application. Damnit! I don't know what the hell to do. I'm not going to release my game until I've solved this problem...
