LETS REBEL!!!!

Post by Joey »

Ok, I am ready to rebel against the fucking messed up IDSA! Its not because they stop downloading available for sierras agi and sci games because that is illegal to download the full version, but having SHAREWARE games being FORCED to be removed from your site is just pathetic! www.dosgames.com had to remove the shareware versions of wolf 3d, quake, etc, from the idsa for an unexplained reason. Here is the quote from the dosgames.com owner/admin/whatever the **** he is called:

"Unfortunately, three classic games are no longer available on the
website. Quake, Doom and Wolfenstein had to be removed because of an email
received from the IDSA requesting their removal. The IDSA, for reasons
known only to them (the shareware versions I had on the site were 100%
legal!) requested I remove them; if I didn't, they would have my host
shut me down. I tried to find out WHY this unreasonable request was made
but haven't been able to get an answer from them. I'm working on a
petition form, when it's done I'll announce it on this mailing list.
Hopefully we will be able to get some answers from them! :) If you're
interested in the IDSA, their website is:

http://www.idsa.com"

This was in an old issue of the DOSGames newsletter, but i hate the idsa, and I think action should be taken, whatever it is that can be done atlease...

If you agree with me, let me know, cause I am sick of the IDSA, and we should tell them how we feel. I know this thread is probably going to be removed, but oh well. I dislike the IDSA, and I am sure a lot of you do too. We should just all work together on an email we could send them or something. If you are with me, state it here or pm me.

That this'll be locked purely depends on how you'll take care of what you're willing to do.

Anyway, got a question for you, if you don't mind. Do you think that an organisation that makes others act to their will without giving an explanation, even when asked, will listen to what others'll tell it?

While I am against the IDSA, it's still illegal to download these games.

You can find these games on the internet at places like ebay, and amazon.

So I will not be part of the petition, because the IDSA does protect the rights of the game and it's makers, although I think they do go a bit overboard sometimes.

rebellion is fruitless for they are right, Joey.

Of course, there's been a time, when you could download each end everything from internet. From a student's view of things, it's often the only possibility to get the software needed for study without having to pay often gorgeous license fees - which a student can't afford. But whilst doing so, one has had to keep in mind that such actions are illegal and that it is at all times best to keep silent for not to attract the attentions of those big industry clans.

It's been this massive bragging and unstealthy greedy acting in the plain wilderness of internet that caused them to wake up and defend their interests.

So, Joey, forget about any petitions. Time has changed, and if you don't grasp that stealth is needed when you do something illegal, then I can't explain further.

eMule, eDonkey and co. are the best examples for this bragging-around in the plain.

Mark: just the fact, that it's possible to do something is not proof that this action is legal. Taking an opportunity by it's wagging, luring tail sometimes causes crossing the line from legal to illegal. Well, and then it's time to hide, praise jesus.

I'll agree with you only about removing shareware...

Chris, it was SHAREWARE. not the full versions of the game. I hate the IDSA, and kon tiki, they may not listen to us, but it will be worth it. what do we have to lose. I usually go to download games at dosgames, and the old id games are some of my favorites besides agi and sci, and that is just completely rediculous removing shareware without even giving an explanation. Why not the other thousands of sites with it. there is a reason for the word SHARE in the word shareware. if they idsa cant realize that then **** off.

They may not listen to us, but as long as they hear our words of judgement, we have spoken how we feel. For whether or not the give a ****, everyone should tell them how they feel if they are against it. We may not get them shut down (I doubt we will), but they need to know how people react towards them. I partially agree with them about disallowing downloads of full version products that are still for sale, but shareware I disagree on. Agree with me if you like, or disagree with me if you so chose. I just think we should do what we can before god knows what they will do.

I know that it was shareware(I have the shareware version).

But without them alot of games/companies/game-makers would lose alot of their rights to the game, plus alot of profits. So I will not try to take them down, I partially support them, but I am sure they won't mind that guy leaving up the shareware version, all they have to do is explain that it IS the shareware version.

yes you are right chris, and i emailed the guy yesterday cause i went to the site and found that those games were back on his site. he said the idsa emailed him back ALMOST saying they made a mistake but they let him put it back on cause they realized it was shareware. so i guess we havent a reason to go against them. i still dislike them, but they are partially right in their doings. so forget this ****.
