MY computer (not the one im on now) is acting very strange. I couldnt format it from DOS yesterday. I typed format c: and it just sat there, and if i hit enter, it went back to the promt. I did this cause I need to reinstall windows. So I tried going into the windows 98 setup, and it was able to format it, but then when it went to the part where it says windows will now do a routine check (scandisk i think) i hit enter to continue like it said, and it just froze. i tried this over and over and over and it didnt work. so then i tried installing windows 95, same thing. it locked up at that part. so then i tried using the restore cd for that computer, and as it was extracting files, it locked up on one. what the **** is going on? the day before this happened, i installing this VESA 2.0 thing for a game. isnt that BIOS or something? I dont know. could this be causing the problems?

I also went into fdisk, and deleted the partition, and then made a primary dos one (which was what it originally was i think) then i set it active. i dont know why windows 95 or 98 wont install. windows 3.1 did! but it wouldnt run with my dos :'(. i had windows 98 on my pc before i formatted it. i dont know whats going on. could someone please help me why this wont work? im really confused.

Well, get a bunch of floppies and use another computer to cook up a mess of BIOS disks. If you think it's because you changed your BIOS, then change it back! If that doesn't work, then you know that it is something else, and we can allw ork from there.

i didnt really think it was the bios thingy, but i wasnt sure. plus i formatted the hard drive, so i thought it would have gotten rid of the vesa bios thingy. its just it locks up in certain parts of the installation, the part where its going to do scandisk. i ran scandisk from dos from a floppy on my c drive, and it worked, but i cancelled the surface scan cause i didnt wanna wait. so its not like scandisk was broken or something. i dont know what the problem is.

BIOS isn't on the hard drive. It's on a chip on the motherboard.

I'll repeat it again:

1) Use another computer to download the BIOS disk for your motherboard.

2)insert that floppie into your computer went the power is off.

3) Power it on. You should be greeted by the BIOS logo display and a menu asking if you want to flash the BIOS.

4) Tell it that, yes, yes you would like to do that.

5) It will do it.

6) If you still have problems after this, it may be that your BIOS is fine. We will all work from there.

Go to your motherboard's manufacturers website. You should be able to find it from there. Although, I warn: flashing BIOS is risky, and when it goes wrong, it is hard to fix it without getting a new chip... (Possible though.)

you idiot.....you shouldnt try formatting a computer if you didnt know what bios is and that its not located on the hard disk....you need to understand how the computer works before you go and format it....geez

hey faggot, i know perfectly how a computer works, im just not sure why fucking windows wont install. i installed some **** program before i formatted it that changed bios or something. i didnt know it was gonna do that. i highly doubt thats the problem, i dont know what it is though. something is screwed up though, but i dont know what. but i do know how a computer works you clit. ive formatted my computer and made new partitions plenty of times before, and i know how a computer works, i just dont know why it keeps locking up at the scandisk part which ran fine when i ran scandisk.exe from dos on c:.

Hey, Joey, watch the fucking language. And don't let some troll who's using a guest account get you all pissed off, either. He's just fcking with you, trying to get a reaction from you. And he succeeded. Guys like this flame people just for the amusement. He isn't trying to help you, and he's not going to be constructive. I know that you are young, but also very smart. Please act like you are as smart as I think you are.

And don't call people faggots!
