SDL and Lamothe

I've heard about SDL and Lamothe... and heard you can make about any 2D game with it. I also got a game (attached as a zip-file) that's pretty damn addictive. Now these two combined got me wondering... is it possible, and how difficult is it, to make such games (or other games that're just as addictive) using SDL and Lamothe's books?
