BlueIllusionOS 0.07 - existence notice *g*
Just so you don't think it's dead or so. I'm pretty busy with other stuff these days, so very little time for os deving (a pity. honestly.)
But it is growing and growing and growing ...
Just today I've implemented a glimpse of translucent windows. Hard coded to the log window for now and merely a proof of concept but working and going to be extended
here's a screenie:

Next thing I've completed is the dhcp-client service which I'm using to configure interfaces with the dhcp protocol. That's gonna be extended with xml-config stuff so it knows f. ex. to always configure the first ethernet-interface which is showing up.
what stands on my schedule is a device manager thing which allows
to configure devices to some degree (like configuring nics - per hand - per dhcp service by either filling in boxes or putting a tick in a checkbox.
We will see ... In summer holidays maybe there's going to be a little rush of work on BlueIllusionOS.
STay Safe

Re:BlueIllusionOS 0.07 - existence notice *g*
could have edited but that way no one notices that there is news online
I have put a recent *.iso image online, which contains blueillusionOS 0.07.
Have fun with it.
Something to note:
the mousedriver doesn't work in qemu. sorry. That's really bad. I'm working on it.
in vmware it should boot up perfectly. I have not yet tested it on real hardware, but that's something yet to be done. (some rtl8029 nic outta there to test would be quite fine *gg* Think I'm having some of them lying around here )
Yeah, and the font is still crap. Pls bear with me. I'm studying in the evenings (after work) and don't really have time to draw a new one.

hi,
I tested your operating system on real hardware, but it did not boot up properly. The output was
mmserv
nested pf! pid: 8, pde: 401067, adresse FFD1E000, free pages: 28345
k->gs: 0
...[everything 0]...
k->u_ss: 0
double pagefault caught in system process. Halting!
btw. The link in your signature is the right iso image, isn't it?

@bluecode: thanks for testing! That's a good thing to see, that it has some troubles. 'd have been a complete miracle if it had worked straight outta box, ain't it?
Gonna debug this thing as soon as possible. *gg*
as for the link in my signature: yeah, it points to the latest published *.iso, so I'm sure you've downloaded the correct image.
Stay safe.

I was just a little confused, because on your homepage there is no 0.07 release and the link in your signature does not contain any information on the versionbeyond infinity wrote:@bluecode: thanks for testing! Your IDE/ATA/ATAPI driver may perhaps be also buggy, because bochs reports the following in the log:
00024303104i[HD ] ata0-0: SET FEATURES subcommand 0xcc not supported, but returning success
00034763571i[HD ] ata0-0: SET FEATURES subcommand 0xcc not supported, but returning success
00041883098e[HD ] ata0: device set to 1 which does not exist
00048929566e[HD ] ata1: device set to 0 which does not exist
00107451688i[HD ] disk ata1-0 not present, aborting
00108167390e[HD ] ata1: device set to 1 which does not exist
In bochs your OS did also not start correctly, it hang after printing "boo auf console1"...

Re:BlueIllusionOS 0.07 - existence notice *g*
@bluecode: thanks very much for testing
Well, the thing with the version numbers is that I don't really care about them*gg* so it might look like a bit of a mess... for me it's "the version where I've got Networking to work" or "the version where the gui got translucent windows" or so. It's not really as if a version number could tell anything beside --- an arbitrary numbering of release builds, eh?
besides: If you please, could you tell me which hardware you have tested it on? I'd be interrested in that because here I have one Celeron (on these, it never worked plainly, dunno why) and one XEON Quad Processor machine, where it craps out also (in the vm86 stuff) and two machines on which it works: athlon xp 1700 + with 512 mb and vesa2 compatible graphics adapter and one athlon thunderirgendwos with 1000 mhz and 128 mb ram and vesa2 compatible graphics adapter (and rtl8029 compatible nic) ... BlueillusionOS is also known to work with pentium IV 1700 mhz on either asus or gigabyte mobo (with 1 gb ram)
It is a little bit hard to guess all the culprits which might hinder it to work on real hardware so I really need: CPU, RAM, Graphics adapter (whether it is vesa2 compatible) and Mainboard.
Have a nice day.

Re:BlueIllusionOS 0.07 - existence notice *g*
omg, I'm really sorry... I completely forgot about that :O
I got a Pentium IV 2Ghz with 512Mb RAM and a GeForce4 Ti 4200 (which is VESA2 compatible). I don't know which mainboard it is, but perhaps from Medion, because I bought that PC in shop named Aldi (I think you know that shop All PC they have are from Medion imho). But I can't tell you why vm8086 does not work on that Pentium IV...
Tested it also on a Pentium IV 3Ghz (1GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 6700 XL which also is vesa2 compatible), where it the vm8086 stuff worked very well, but the ata/atapi thing seemed to fail (exactly the same as in bochs imho). And the last thing printed out is also "boo auf console1"...
Is your gui server perhaps loaded from cdrom (which obviously does not work)?

Re:BlueIllusionOS 0.07 - existence notice *g*
have successfully reproduced the error in mmsrv (it's been some not initialized list. WOnder that it works nearby always and in some cases not ...)
anyways, a new image with the according bugfix is online.
the vm86-error I am hunting down currently.
stay safe .
