Don't worry. OS development is very personal so most like to have their own projects, even though it is very difficult.
If you're looking for help, I recommend reading James Molloy's tutorial, then completing Bare Bones on the wiki. James Molloy's tutorial is really buggy and out-dated, but you can get an idea of what an OS has at the core, and Bare Bones shows the proper way to do things.
