Here's a thing: I really want to try out Linux (I heard that running Mint is pretty good for a beginner) but even some things seem way over my head. Like when installing Linux version of Java JRE/JDK I want to test it working in Firefox but it still tells me it's disabled. I have the two packages actually installed though.

I'm sure getting the hang of other things step by step, slow and steady. I know how to use the graphical package manager, how to use commands like "apropos" and "man" pages, but still concerned about having gaps in knowledge as the Linux system is so open-ended.

I signed up for a free Udemy Java course. It's self -paced which I love. I have an end goal in mind to get into bare metal and/or OSDev. I am content with the idea building something from only bits and bytes. I watched a YouTube video explaining the concept of bits and bytes, I'm almost but not completely grasped it yet. All I understand is like: the largest byte value is 255, 1-byte is only black and white color value, basic knowledge.

I'm not as technical-minded as I think, I guess. I have certain comprehension problems, and it might be a grind to have to learn advanced CPU and architecture know how, oh well, guess when I cross the bridge I'll have to persevere.

This isn't a Linux support forum, there are better places to ask such questions.

I will mention though, some operating systems use OpenJDK instead of Oracle Java which includes the browser plugin, also most recent browsers blacklist old versions of Java for obvious security reasons.

The JRE/JDK sometimes doesn't include the browser plugin.
I think you need the package icedtea-7-plugin.

I'll work it out sometimes when I'm not overwhelmed.
