20Mb/s cable tier, average download is 2.3MB/s. I'm considering an upgrade to 55Mb/s now that upload speeds are improving in my area.

Ontario, Canada.

Mine goes from 0.5 to 8 MbS but normally sits between 3-4MbS in Italy, ISP claims no speed, just "High Speed ADSL"... I'm guessing no one's throttled, what you get is based on network load...

I wish my upload could be a bit faster, but I don't really upload big files so it doesn't matter too much.

I will assume you mean me.
I'm not sure how I modified in image that's hosted on the Speedtest.net servers, but if you click it you get taken to a text page.

I'll join this thread while trying to prevent social engineering in any form.

First, my internet:

The plan was 1000Mbps but my 4 (or 5) year old router and one remote speedtest server just can't utilize it.
Also, this is local regional bandwidth, it will drop significantly when access to oversea routes, it even drops when access to "non-speedtest optimized" servers (which is kind of cheat that located in ISP), so it's not being very useful if you want to host servers.

12 kilobytes per second ... not even exaggerating. It took me almost 17 hours to download the DirectX SDK.

Calgary.

Have you considered installing pfSense on an old PC? That should solve your router troubles.

I've noticed that my speed isn't as high when going overseas, but connecting to other places in the UK is fine here.
