I am Peter, in Hong Kong, I want to be an os developer, but there is not os develop company in hong kong. So is any os development job avaliable in america? what job hiring website can reach this? and what is the salary?

I am a good OS developer, I developed a OS with Multitasking, Paging, drivers, VESA GUI, and all things for a basic OS. (I can show you all things on inquiry)

There really aren't any jobs in America either focusing on osdev. Your best bet is something like Microsoft, Google, or IBM. (Who all do operating system development.) Aren't there any of these companies operating in Hong Kong?

well, since when is Google in Operating System development at work?
we should stay being realistic, so no google
(google doesn't take over Microsoft as Microsoft did vs. IBM, since they do not write an OS)

but for Microsoft, it's really not easy to come in there
and it is nearly impossible as a hobby developer to get there a job - as lowlevel system developer or whatever
you can search on the Microsoft job website for jobs Redmond, system development engineer or something - then you will find some jobs to really develop Windows in future
but all this jobs need experience - apart from certifies or something

they developed OS/2, but give it more or less up...

You should plan your startup.
You need something that really captures people imagination, something that's really new, something people need and they don't have - if it should become a success.

I was sure Google helped out lots of OSS projects, I even suspect they submit patches to Linux at times.

You really should research before posting, a simple check on the IBM website reveals a plethora of Operating Systems. Not only do they contribute to and Use Linux in huge number of massive projects but they also continue to develop mainframe and specialist operating systems for there systems.

of course I have

but google doesn't directly employees someone for developing an OS, they just have their summer of code
and the code has to be open source, so you see already there how the financial suport is
I think it's a cool thing, but the wrong thing for professional operating system developers which wanna make money with their work

and for IBM, well I'm talking about Desktop Systems (such as Windows, Linux, etc.), so the work we are doing here; IBM makes some Unix OS stuff, so the won't be interested in developers like us

You forgot Apple!

Even if you did happen to become an osdever for one of these companies, you will be be spending all your time reading and debugging an overbloated OS someone else wrote. If you wanted to write an OS from scratch with a team of other developers, you could try a telephone or console company (Nintendo, Nokia, Sony). Although most of these companies are switching over to licensing other operating systems (Linux, Symbian) rather than using in-house OS'es.

well yeah, apple could need us since they changed the operating system's architecture
and you really shouldn't forget the architecture, so if you are going to some company you said (Nintendo, Nokia, Sony, ...), then you surely have to learn developing for a new (embedded) architecture, what passes by the work we are doing

yeah it's difficult to find a job in the OS development till it's a monopolized market
