well, in case you're having issues, try openoffice.
strange, though. i opened that document in both ms-word and openoffice writer, and it worked.

and next time, you might want to, uh, choose a politer word than 'dumbass'.
:D

Yes, we'll install a huge dependency like OpenOffice.. several hundred megabytes, just to read your 'blueprint' document.

I think JamesM chose the right word.

Did I say "can't"? I actually meant "won't". I "won't" install openoffice just to view that document. Why not export it as something sensible, like, uh, HTML? That sort of works on browsers, doesn't it?

Too bad there is no "like post" function. This is +20 karma.

Congratulations on being a total moron.

More seriously though, I expected better from you. What's the next step, scourning Windows users for choosing the most dumbass OS ever? About any wordprocessor can read .DOCs nowadays. Abiword, WordPerect, OpenOffice etc. etc.

Hm, this is a DOC/RTF file, it does not need OpenOffice. Im in agreement with Jal here, almost any word processor can read this type of file.

OK, let me explain more fully. I was working on a university machine that has a severely outdated version of openoffice on it that doesn't render .docs very well at all. I was working with very limited time and was going to spend some of it reading the OP's proposal. But I couldn't, because of his format choice. With hindsight I could have imported it into google docs, but quite frankly I'm not willing to spend all that extra time attempting to open a document.

Portable document formats exist for a reason (PDF anyone?). It comes back to the "is your time more important than my time?" or put a different way: "I'm not the one asking *you* to spend *your* time looking over *my* proposal".

So yes, I stick to my guns.

That does not sound like the fault of using a DOC file... (You can use WordPad..)

[In any case, this is getting off topic. We can discuss file formats in a different thread.]

Errr... I think PDF is just as proprietary and portable as .DOC. Especially if you have the latest version, and you have an old document viewer. The difference with .DOC is that your document viewer will refuse to display it at all. But I agree with Neon, this is getting offtopic. Perhaps a moderator can split this thread?
