Hi OSDevers,
I encourage you to apply to Google Summer of Code . Google will pay you to hack on your favorite OS project. For those who are reading Tanenbaum's OS book, this is a great way to dive into Minix 3 development. Check out the Minix 3 GSoC Page, and feel free to propose your own idea. There are a lot of other fine OS projects (FreeBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD, various Linux distros, etc.) participating as well.
The deadline for student proposals is April 3rd. See the GSoC FAQ for more info. Tell your friends! If you can publicize GSoC at your universities, that would be great too.
Arun (Minix 3 developer)

Looks interesting!

A professor sent me a heads up on that. I might do something in digital investigations. Maybe a cool little read-only application to demo MFT analysis or something. I need to make sure that I have the time. Do you know when your project must be complete?

You can also improve haiku, a BeOS like OS. But I'm not a student anymore, since this year.

It may look interesting but you have to be over 18 and a student, with or without a degree .
