System Call Magazine, Issue 2

Well, now that the first issue has been released (view here), it's time to start planning the second issue. As such, I propose the following agenda:
  • The main complaint with the previous issue was the fonts, styles and formatting used in the first issue. As I was using the first issue as a kind of experiment, that's fine. I've now produced a template for pages in the magazine, which can be viewed here. It's quite large, as I wanted to keep the highest quality. If you have any comments about how it looks, either discuss here, or send me a PM.
  • Of course, we will need more articles for a second issue. As far as I know SandeepMathew is contributing a second part to his compiler development tutorial; but other than that we have no more contributions to speak of. We would really appreciate any offers to write regular articles or columns, but just one-off things are of course welcome. PM either B.E or myself about that (or of course in this thread, it will all get put in the same place anyway).
  • The logo probably could do with a redesign. I don't know if anybody here is experienced in graphic design... if they are, now is your time to help (because I'm absolutely useless at it)!
Please, discuss.

That's a much better format, though I quite liked the first issue, I found that having three columns made it a bit annoying to read, because I ws constantly having to scroll back to the top of the page...
So I think this new template is a marked improvement.

Maybe the font size of code boxes should be decreased or sources code should be placed outside of the two columns, so that you can easily read long lines of code.

For larger code samples, they could be stretched across both columns?

That sounds like a really good idea to me.

New template looks good.

As for articles, I am supposedly a good writer, but I just can't think of anything to write about.

Just a small request, but can you attempt to make the next issue a little more friendlier with xpdf? :)

I was bored of playing games and decided to whip up a nicer home site for System Call.

I have uploaded it to the following address http://rackbits.com/systemcall/

@ucosty: It doesn't look to bad, but I like the current one to.
Also I notice, that issue 1 hasn't been made available on the site yet...

I sent you a article, for the first issue, see here:
http://www.dex4u.com/DexMag/DexMag1-3.htm

If you did not want to use it fine, but you could of let me know, that it was unsuitable.
In stead of just ignoring it, then asking for more articles, as you have none.

Brynet-Inc: I'll make a point to test it more next time. Thanks.

ucosty: Looks nice. Would it be based off PHP, or static pages?

Dex: I'm really sorry; I actually just completely missed it! It will definitely be the first article to be put in this issue. Again, my apologies.

Thats just a static page but there is nothing that would stop you from adding php code to it.

Sorry, in my rush this morning I thought it was a full website. Looking now, I see it's just a page template. It probably is something to think about, fixing up the website.

Speaking of, I best see if I can update it to reflect the release.
