Is honest really the best policy ???

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Is honest really the best policy ???

Post by DeletedAccount »

Let me narrate some of my experiences ,

In one lab exam I was told to implement a circuit generates the required waveform . I did design the ciruit , the circuit diagram was perfect , however when i implemented the circuit , I didnt get the required output , I fact i received nothing on the CRO . I tried to debug it , but failed in the process , I thought i was going to fail in the lab exam , But i answered all the viva questions and got moderate marks . But after exam , I replaced the breadboard n Voila I got the output....

But do you know what my friend did , he also didnt get the output. He connected a wire from the CRO to his hand without the examiner noticing and manipulted the wire so delicately that the output did actually look the waveform to be generated n he got good marks (he he ...)

I must also confess that in the lab exam of previous semester , I also cheated , The problem was to solve a problem based on polygon clipping algorithm . I didnt learn polygon clipping properly , I used my own goofy variation of the Cohen -Sutherland Line clipping algorithm to get the output and bluffed the teacher into beleiving that it was something else and i got the highest marks (coz i compleated the 2 hr exam in 30 minutes ...)

This proves that honesty is not always the best policy......

Define "best".

"best" for me involves not only getting high marks (as you did), but not getting kicked out of university. If you're found out, that is what will happen. I suggest you don't cheat again, because it's a slippery slope to dirtier and dirtier cheats until eventually you don't learn anything at all and bluff everything!

Yes James ,
I was initially very happy , but later felt guilty for not doing it the right way . I will do it correctly from nuw on . I will make a confession in the curch so that i will not repeat it.

But yes , i was interested in everyones opinion. Like in foreign universities we do not get kicked out for cheating ! .

This might be a little touchy but...

Making a confession in the Church isn't going to make you "auto-magically" not do it again. God isn't in the business of taking away the free will that he gave to you (although he will help you to make the right decisions.). The best way to keep you honest would be to get someone to whom you can be accountable. In this instance, find someone who will ask you seriously from time to time if you have cheated.

It would actually be in the universities' interests to expel cheaters (after the appropriate amount of grace of course). IMHO it would produce people who are better suited to be productive members of society.

But mistake is not only from my part . I did comment and document my source properly , She should have read the source instead of lazily asking questions . But we /I are not accountable to teachers , Since i study in a goverment engg college -- almost nothing is thaught . Sometimes there are no classes and some classes are worthless . Only thing we get from the teachers is the syllabus!!! . But i have enormous repect for one teacher , he
patiently cleared all the doubts i throwed at him (Dear Anwar Sir it is u).. I will not forget him for the rest of my life .

However my algorithm did produce the correct output and it is as efficent as the algo given in text , Just that it is not algorithm the examiner intended . I am writing this in the hope that none of my teachers read this . . I am only accountable to myself and no else ....
