Hateful computer usage
My parents have decided that 'sitting and using the computer is really bad'
So now I have to stand while using the computer. *sigh*
My OSdeving will be reduced because I can't stand here doing this for more than an hour at a time.

18 hour is a lot of computer time.
I used around 5 normally, now it'll be reduced to much less.

It's actually a lot less comfortable than you might imagine. It helps to stick something under the front of the monitor stand if you have a CRT so it points up at you, but usually the stands themselves don't swivel far enough to give a good viewing angle. It gets to be hell on your back and shoulders if you don't have something at about lower rib cage level to set the keyboard and mouse(although when I had to do it, I just stopped using X altogether. Mouse was just too uncomfortable from that angle. A trackball might've been better..).Alboin wrote:Why not move your computer to the floor, and sit?
@piranha: If you're interested in trying to strike a compromise with your parents, you might try a kneeling chair. You can pick a cheap but decent one up for about $40 at Office Max last time I checked. They're a lot more comfortable than they look. It takes a while to get used to not leaning back on something, but once you are used to it, it leaves your back much less achy and helps preserve proper muscle tone while sitting.
This wikipedia article shows a couple. The picture on the right is similar to the one I have, and is the kind that you can usually find cheaply.

Too late to do anything else, I spent a day setting up my room with this standing thing already.
Its not really that bad, but I cant use the computer for 5 hours
