The vote for weather OOXML(Office Open XML) to be fast-tracked as a ISO standard is to be held at the end of this month(last vote was in September last year and failed).

Just wondering, what you guys think about OOXML, and weather it should be an ISO standard or not.

I think it's best that it is an ISO standard so that custom software for the format can be made without haxxoring the files. It also means that code using the format follows the standard and not guesses.

Of course, it all depends on the ISO standard being effective and appropriate.

A official standard would be a Good Thing, wether it needs to be ISO certified is IMHO less important.

I actually don't see the need for two ISO standard (I assume that OOXML and ODF are functionaly nearly equivalent).

besides: Did they remove the copyright/patent problems?

If I remember correctly OOXML had quite a few ambiguous definitions in the standard doc. Stuff a bit like make_me_behave_like_office_95. What exactly would that mean?
