Why do you post these things?

Post by lollynoob »

Are you some weird sort of spammer? As far as I know, this forum's for people to announce their own projects, not something made by someone else, which is all you seem to post topics about.

Firmware Linux is neat and all, but I don't think here's the place to do someone else's advertising.

binutils is a strange member.. he/she posts random links, but barely "talks".

It could be some sort of artificial intelligence... or just someone lazier then I am. ;)

No offence intended binutils.

Either admit you don't know English well (which I would be fine with, there are lots of people from non English speaking countries here), or learn to type it correctly.

About what I think you were trying to say (that announcements are announcements, regardless of whose project it is), this is true to an extent, but I really think this subforum should be focused on hobby developers' projects, which rarely get attention, not on other things like Linux which have a lot of popularity already. I repeat, I'm not saying that this isn't worthy of announcing, I'm just saying this isn't the place to do so.

Granted, I could be wrong; if this is the case I'd like to know so I can stop yelling at binutils.

sorry, i don't agree.
everything is almost done, so even it is possible another os in linux, linux could be base, not region.
just like this project: http://www.glendix.org/ (26 January 2008)(PS: where should i insert these kind of project? another subforum?)

But this forum is directed towards projects made by people who have accounts here. Firmware Linux isn't your project, and neither is Glendix. It's not your place to do their advertising (and in doing so, giving less attention to the smaller projects here by taking up front page space). I know if I had a project on the front page, I wouldn't want someone bumping it to page two because he wanted to post somebody else's project every day.

How about you just don't post it?

Because this forum isn't for posting things like that. Seriously, what kind of question is that?

In this subforum it does matter; as I said earlier, I'm almost certain that this board is meant for the hobby projects of people who post here, not the projects of other people. Perhaps you're thinking this is General Ramblings.

Also, how is a Björk video relevant to what we're talking about?

As a final note, why do you like to post other people's projects? They're not yours; don't post about them. Even if the creator of the project wanted to advertise on this forum, I'm sure they'd want to pick a more literate person than you to show off their hard work. Are you somehow incapable of creating something on your own?

lollynoob, as your name suggests you haven't been with us for very long, nor have you been very active, so i maybe you should consider not giving the impression that you have all the answers to what you should post where.

There by i'm not saying that you haven't got the right to an oppinion, of course you do, and you should of course allso express it, but do think twice.

My oppinion is that while this might not qualify as an hobby OS it is likely that it is of interest to at east some people at this forum, thus it is perfectly allright to post it.
This was supposed to be a cool signature...

I understand that it's a hobby system, and I probably wouldn't have gotten on to binutils if he had only posted this; however, that's not the case- all of his topics here are about other peoples' projects (and I've seen quite a few; just because I joined recently doesn't mean that I've not been looking at this forum for a while). I was just hoping to correct him so that the other projects on this page get the attention they deserve, instead of being bumped down by binutils' posts.

I might come off as a bit harsh, but I'm just trying to get it across to him that this isn't some place to turn into his own personal slashdot.

I personally don't see anything wrong with it - I actually find it useful at times to find out what's happening.

How else are we meant to find out about new developments in the osdev world? I'd prefer to look to osdev.org ;).
