OS Projects Hosting

Post by maximYCH »

Dear developers!
Project OS Development Network which gives a hosting to projects of OS already now in the near future will open. You receive the domain of a kind name.makeos.ru, technical support, PHP/MySQL/Perl/CGI, the control panel hosting OSPanel, and FTP.
All rest will be включенно by inquiry.
To us the Russian projects have already got over:
  • ExeOS
  • LogoROS

lol I plan on doing something similar when I have more free time. I plan on having free hosting as well with both FTP and Browser management interfaces. All of this ontop of Server 2008 with IIS7. Probably using PLESK as the interface of choice.

what exactly are YOUR hosting details? besides that you are running apache...

I can't even find your website. www.makeos.ru just gives a dropin page (obviously in russian so I can't read it...) and your FTP link points quite cleverly to "ftp://.". Extremely useful.

I'll stick with googlecode for the moment, thanks!

translation

Post by kubeos »

So does my page get translated automatically into russian and german?

That would be neat, as I'm already too lazy to make a real webpage, never mind doing any translating. All I care about is coding the os.

What advantage does this offer over SourceForge, Google Code, BerliOS, Launchpad or whatever? I think people would much trust and use one of them because they are well-known, rather than a site with bad English.

I think there should also be a list of hosted projects on the home page so that a new user can see the real websites and make an impression with that about your site.

The main feature I liked about your website is that you are letting a user free to create his own site!

And the thing I disliked is that most of the programmers/developers like the feature set that is provided by sourceforge, googlecode etc. which your site doesn't provide.

No, home page this project I traslated independently. Ru->De - my sister is professional on traslated.
English - such as all OS authors is English peoples, russian projects no guideline at english audience :)

I no work with this projects, so I dont know about them possibility. This projects give server scripts, free design, CMS (modules: pages, enter levels (0-4), admin panel and users, expansibility) and translate you project at ru and/or de? I know - No.

SVN? Git? Bazaar? CVS? Mercurial? Any version control systems at all? Mailing lists? Bug tracker? I don't see any mention of them. All provided by the sites I mentioned before, which I would *much* rather use...

I think your website will attract more visitors from general hosting community. Because you provide all those features that a webmater will look for. OS devers and programmers needs something more like bug tracker svn etc. as Alex mentioned.

A suggestion from my side would be that you install a software like sourceforge or google have, on your site. There are plenty of them available on the net. And then let everybody register at your site. This will surely attract OS devers to your site.

At random place on all pages of your site (include forum) put a string: "We hosted on MakeOS.ru project"
... with 50-300MB capacity? No thanks, spasiba dasvidánja. :)
