What if you were told when to the exact moment you were going to die. And you decided that when you die, you might as well go in an interesting, fun way. So you decide to, say, jump off a cliff at the time of your death. And on the way down, you realize that the only reason that you are going to die at this time is because you were told that you were going to die. And you realize that because you thought that you were going to die, you caused it to happen.

I thought of that today in Biology, when I was filling out a lab sheet......I was bored.

If you knew the future, you would act such that that future would become true. If you acted upon your knowledge of the future, if you had not known it would you still have had the same future?

This of course depends on the point of view, doesn't it.

But I agree with you. For the one who is about to be scragged, it ain't fun nor interesting to pass away. Best to wish it's over and quickly at all, when the bell tolls.

Well if you are clairvoyant about the future, it does not matter how you act, because all the action you take from now on are already known and the outcome would not change.

The basis of the counter of the grandfather paradox: you cannot change events that have already happened. If you can kill your grandfather (or mother) before they created you you don't exist, so you cannot have killed him, so you will exist. If you know the future, the future in effect has already happened. The only difference is the feeling you get, you can change what you do right now but travelling time appears to be odd.

If you can see into the future, you can also travel in time (from a philosophical point of view, IE, wrt the paradoxes and time-problems, not the physical view about how you would do it).

Of course one of the problems with clairvoyancy is that you get a reading of the future and assume that you can then do something about it. People make the assumption that their future is therefore dynamic but everyone else's is deterministic...

The best thing about the future is that it keeps becoming the present.

...and yet tomorrow never comes.

"Fun" way to die? Try this: plug your fingers into the mains fuse. You will suffer an extreme pain, followed by unconsciousness and death. Before you will die, your brain will start to act strangely, you will have a bad taste in your mouth, you would "see things", 1+1 becomes an incalculable result, and anybody you would touch will die like you, because, from now on, you are an electrical conductor. And the "best" thing is, you wouldn't unplug your fingers back without assistance. How sweet

Reading this reminded me of the fate of Paul Muad'Dib in Dune: Messiah. Knowing the future would actually be quite tragic...
