WHAT THE HECK!?!?!??!? WINDOWS AND STUFF LIKE ALL OF THIS...

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

WHAT THE HECK!?!?!??!? WINDOWS AND STUFF LIKE ALL OF THIS...

Post by mynameyay »

What the hell is with this forum and it's members?

I mean, everyone doesn't like Windows!?!

Windows is GREAT! It doesn't crash as often as Linux/Unix. It's faster. When programs are installed it's greatly faster then Linux with programs installed.

I mean, the Linux registry is just a big folder.

Also, Linux violates many patents from Microsoft, and Windows was here much before *nix.

Windows is better.

OBVIOUS

While I'll leave the rest of your post alone (flamebait much?) I had to address this. UNIX, in it's original form (developed for AT&T at Bell Labs) was first started in 1971 (and the roots of the project, such as the development of C for programming it in, stretch back to 1969). Windows wasn't around until 1983, and most people didn't know about it until the late 80's/early 90's.

If you are going to make big claims (and I'm not being on either side here), it pays to have the evidence to back them up.

no just a 8 year old who think he knows stuff. The fact that he/she needs to shout implicitly tells that he/she is not really sure but wants to emphasize that he/she does know. but nevertheless it is a good laugh to see how dumb people can be.

People are allowed to have opinions.
mynameyay wrote:I mean, everyone doesn't like Windows!?!
I like Windows, I also like *nix. There are people on this site that hate Windows, and I'm also sure you'll find many who swear by Windows. You sound like on of them. But most people don't get all excited/aggressive and call everyone else dumb because they don't share the same beliefs or opinions.

Sure, it has its merits. So does Linux and Minix and most OS's I've tried.
mynameyay wrote:It doesn't crash as often as Linux/Unix.[/qoute]
In my experience both correctly set up are as stable as one another. Maybe the problem with your experience with Linux and Unix exists between the keyboard and chair?
mynameyay wrote:It's faster.[/qoute]
I'm sure Windows excels in some areas and slower that other OS's in other areas. But you can't say it's "faster". Most OS's can suffer from bloatingness. You may have been using a stock Linux distro that installed a load of unwanted servers leading to a bad experience. That also happens far too often on Windows too.

Read my last comment.
mynameyay wrote:I mean, the Linux registry is just a big folder.
Linux does not have a 'registry'. That is a Windows concept. Are you meaning the configuration files in the /etc directory? Did you know the entire Windows registry is contained in only a few system/user files? That means there's a greater chance of corruption and possibly slower (note I said possibly not definitely) since all the files have to be parsed during boot-up and login (even more slower if you have a bloated registry). In Unix/Linux programs access their own configuration files in /etc so one bloated file will not affect the entire system. Again, both systems have their merits.

Are you one of those people who claim Microsoft invented the mouse and the GUI? (Before you start trying to make us believe that - the mouse and the GUI were invented Douglas Engelbert and later went to market by Xerox).

If you're talking about some feature of a program that runs on Linux (such as MPlayer, KDE, Gnome, etc) then you should know most programs can also be compiled to run on multiple operating systems and they have nothing to do with Linux itself. Before you say "KDE stole [insert visual effect here] from Windows" then boast about the originality in Vista, you may want to look at Mac OS X which was released in 2001.

According to Wikipedia:
Windows 1.0 - 1985
MS-DOS - 1980
Unix - 1969
Multics - 1964

You should begin that sentence as "In my opinion..", "I believe..", "Through my experience.."
I won't even comment on that one until you do some research and act more grown-up than to make false assumptions and talk in a tone which implies you're trying to educate us and make us feel arrogant.

Coming in here and explaining "The sun revolves around the earth because the sun is smaller and the earth can't be moving or else we'd feel it move.. OBVIOUS " won't make you many friends (that was an example - I'm not offending the Flat Earth Society :D). You can have an opinion and we welcome that on this forum - but using that tone and attitude isn't.
