VMware is pissing me off

In VMware, is it possible to connect a hard drive to the virtual machine as an IDE drive?

I have tried several times and failed.
This is becoming frustrating.

Help?

Yes you go to Edit Virtual Machine Settings and at the bottom of the hardware list choose add. Then click on hard disk and then continue from there making sure to select IDE when the choice comes up.

The selection for IDE is not there.

You can't select it.

So it forces a SCSI disk? What platform are you on? It lets me choose between IDE and SCSI on Windows.
