Some ways other than using FAQ's

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Some ways other than using FAQ's

Post by ~ »

Yes, FAQ's, like any other documentation, tend to become more and more bulky, to the point that another equally inefective FAQ could be made about which FAQ/section to read.

It would be nice to have a web interface that would allow the investigating user to build up questions by steps like "What is..." "[such thing]"; "Where is..." "[Intel documentation]..." "about AC'97"; "How to..." "initialize..." "sound card" "network card"...

When it starts out, it could be of small interest, but when it recopilates variate answers to thousands of topics that would turn out almost to get answers to specific points to somebody else.

Forum contents and wikis could be catalyzed in an intuitive, straightforward and foolproof virtual dynamic library. And Google searches would seem to be very disorganized because this other method would do a sort of search specifically pointed to an ordered content and, in case it's not included, would warn the user about that and would give out a regular search results. It seems to be an excellent complement to structured documentation.

Google?
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

You mean catalog forum posts into categories like an FAQ to be searched? I had this exact same idea awhile back, but I figured going through thousands of posts wasn't worth it.
