I assume you all know SourceForge et al., where you register your software project and get version control, a bugtracker, a forum etc. etc. for free.
If you had the choice, what software would you want?
(Yes, I have some plans in that direction, but it's pre-alpha yet.)

Hi,
I would say that the version control and bug tracker would be my first priorities.
Personally, I would much rather check a forum or news page than receive mail - I don't join mailing lists unless it's really essential. For this reason, I would put the forum next on the list.
I think project wikis work effectively for large projects where lots od developpers and/or designers are involved. For me, this would not be an essential item until a project has gained some momentum.
One feature I would add under 'other' is a decent search and 'category' page. If a site is hosting loads of projects, it would be nice to be able to accurately show the projects that are relevant to me (with a nice precis of why each project is relevant on the search results page).
Hope this helps and is on the right tracks!

Erm... no, unfortunately.
What I want to know is, what
specific software you would prefer. For example, if you'd like to see some
other version control software than Subversion or CVS.
To a limited extend, I would be able to provide pick-and-chose (provided it's free-of-charge software, obviously), and I would like to check what is demanded before I set up my offer.
As for a search page... the idea was more like an introducing Wiki page categorizing the hosted projects. I want to keep custom programming (of the search function, for example) to a minimum.

OK - got the wrong end of the stick
! I'll keep quiet then - don't have much experience with the pros and cons of specific versions of the software other than saying I am very happy with my osdev.org forum and wiki experience!

I myself use Subversion, I find it nice.. But I have no problems with CVS.
Both can be helpful in a productive environment.

*sigh*
Let me restate my question. If you had to name your favourite
1) Version Control Software (e.g. CVS / SVN / ...)
2) Repository Browser (e.g. ViewVC / ...)
3) Bugtracker (e.g. Mantis / ...)
4) Mailing List administration (e.g. Majordomo / ...)
5) Forum software (e.g. phpBB2 / ...)
6) Wiki software (e.g. PhpWiki / Mediawiki / ...)
7) Other infrastructure software (e.g. Trac / ...)
...which would that be (0..1 per category)?

First, OT: It is so weird not to see David Boreanaz as your avatar
To the poll:
1) Perforce
2) Don't know, never used any...
3) Devtrack
4) Don't know, never used any...
5) phpBB2
6) TWiki
7) Can't think of anything...
A lot of this is just based on what I've used in the past. Hope this helps (somewhat...)

Helps much, thank you! And as for the avatar... well, others started using David too, so I thought I'd shock you with a bit of my real self.

Here goes:
Version Control Software: Subversion (but anything with tortoise in front of it will do)
Repository Browser:
Combuster's Custom
Bugtracker: not a clue (email, anyone)
Mailing List: dont use it either
Forum: phpBB (preferrably with a FIXED captcha
)
Wiki: mediawiki's IMO the best, but 'tavi will do
Other: Documentation generator (NaturalDocs being the solution of my choice)
Avatar: Having two people with the same avatar is confusing. A shame os64dev didn't choose anything else. Btw, i'm not shocked - your photo has been on the old wiki for quite a while now
But i'd probably do the same thing: I got an old avatar of mine lying around somewhere should dexter become popular
