Multicasting

Hi,
I'm trying at the moment to get a packet from one program to another using UDP and multicasting. But, well, nothing happens and googling didn't help either.
Do I need to configure anything on my Windows-PC or Linux-VM before I can use multicasting? Or has anyone worked here with multicasting?
