My mistake
Pro: its a lot faster
Con: it doesn't detect the soundblaster card anymore
At boot it claims root is /dev/cdrom2, I've got only one.
The r (rescan) button doesn't seem to do anything when it can't find the boot device.

* hmm, soundblaster is still fine here..
* root is set in grub, and by mistake set to /dev/cdrom2. root should be deleted there
* rescan has been disabled, if you need further delay in order to detect the devices use rootdelay=seconds (e.g. rootdelay=1) in grub. but as we do not support soo many scsi controller its more likely that it will not boot. what kind of controller does this board has? so we can add support for it...

And obviously, something broke.

Well, there are those hotswappable disks I have (rescan is a good feature there), and since it is the user's choice anyway, why not?
I posted a link with the specs above. If you're looking for a specific driver, consider v8086 mode . You could work out the specific card, but then you'd only get one part of this specific machine working, and it's not likely I'll run any os posted here for serious work.
