I really have to clear up a lot of misinformation here:
-UN inspectors WERE allowed in Iraq.
-The weapons of mass destruction that America is supposedly so concerned about were sold to Iraq by the American government.
-Most of these (like Seren) are no longer viable. Seren has a five-year shelf life, which has been expired.
-America was an ally of Iraq during the Iranian-Iraqi war.
-The Taliban and many other fundamentalist Islamic terrorist cells were originally financed by the U.S. during the Cold War to harrass the USSR, amongst other reasons. They were called the Mujahadin, and they didn't know until the end of the Cold War that they were being financed by a country they refer to as "The Great Satan".
-This potential war on Iraq is largely contested by the American people. Many agreed with the first Gulf War, because we had no idea of our own government's policy regarding the Middle East. Now, many of us who were young during that war have grown up with a much greater understanding of the implications. WE DO NOT WANT THIS WAR!
-The alternatives to oil also include hydrogen fuel cells, bacterial fuel cells, ethanol-burning engines, bio-diesel (A pseudo-petroleum created with organic oils like canola), ethanol fuel cells, and man-power (I ride a bike, and am a fair distance biker).
-The main reason why America is a target for these groups is that during the Cold War, the US and USSR used the Middle East as our proxy battleground. Because we were incapable of launching a real attack on each other, we had a proxy battle in the Middle East. Basically, we lured USSR into the Middle East, causing them to expend too many resources. Then, they withdrew weakened, and we withdrew. Afghanistan WAS bombed into the Stone Age, and we left without so much as repairing their infrastructure. Germany was crushed and left in much the same state after WWI, and this was pivotal to them rising up as an aggressor in WWII.
So, I hope to god no one thinks that we should make a preemptive attack on Iraq, especially my fellow Americans. I love my country enough that I am standing up to claim that if we do go to war, it could bring about our own ruin.

When the hell is the UN going to realise that they are killing innocent people, yes people like bin laden are guilty, but what about the people that live in the country? There are innocent people just trying to live their lives, and JUST because of a couple of bastards they will go and bomb so may innocent people,
If i was the UN i would hire somebody for an assasination, and kill the trouble maker, not innocent people.
If an assasination is not an option, i would think of a way, ANYTHING to avoid war!

Well, I think USA should stop meddling in other countries affairs first of all. Second, Saddam Hussein does present a threat, but how is one to deal with it? How can we render him powerless and still not sink to his level at the same time? In a democracy, diplomacy complicates combat engagement rules. That's why a government needs approval on certain levels. It's surprising that civil approval isn't one of them.

I have great pity for the condition of the people of Iraq, but the best thing we could do to help free them would be to halt sanctions against Iraq. Saddam is still fat and happy in his bunker eating the food that his oil money makes him, while his citizens are starving to death and dying from easily treated illnesses because of sanctions/embargoes.
I read an article in the Wall Street Journal relating a story of an Iraqi man who got subsidies to build boats. The article ranted and railed at Saddam, actually saying that this was "yet another way [he] had wrapped his tentacles around the populace." Well, duh. If his populace weren't poor, hungry, sick bastards, they might not need as many subsidies and might have that immediate burden of survival taken from their shoulders. It's kind of hard planning a revolution while planning how to live through the day.

I dunno. There are so many Saddam Lookalikes now and you just don't know who to trust anyway. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in violence (Unless you have already seen screenshots of MC ;D) But I just think that if you want him dead, there's gonna have to be a lot of bloodshed.
