alright thanks. i just wanted something to keep me busy until summer. after school ends (in about a month), i will probably finally have time to continue c++. the only thing that will interfere is a job, but i will have plenty of time in between.

Yes, but writing an assembler that way is like building a house out of Legos and Crazy Glue, blindfolded. While that kind of Real Programming has a certain machismo to it (or perhaps masochism), in the end it doesn't make much sense beyond proving that you can.
Yup, it was just something that I did as an intellectual exercise, I wouldn't advise anyone doing it for anything other than fun.
It has given me a much better appreciation of the guys who started out with nothing but a processor manual and a front panel though. We're standing on the shoulders of giants, but all the giants have gone away :'(.

well i like making little applications and stuff like that for fun. it brings me enjoyment to see my work completed. so while im waiting for summer, are there any sites that teach you how to make little programs like a text editor, or a paint editor, or a cd player, or something like that? just a little program i could make. usually i learn from making. thats how i learned agi mostly. i looked at other peoples games and stuff. if i looked at source for simple programs that actually do stuff, unlike a hello world app, i may learn from it.

Well if you're interested in doing something fun for the summer then you could do worse than take a look here...

Plenty of OpenGL tutorials that take you through step by step using a variety of different languages. They're a lot of fun and will get you programming 3D pretty quickly.
