I'd love to be involved with a magazine. As a matter of fact, I went as far as whacking together a quick concept of how the cover could look.

What do you think?

It looks absolutely awesome!

What experience do you have in terms of page layout?
I'm about to go do some work now, I'll send you a PM later on how you might be able to help.

The magazine is coming soon... I just need to sort the cover matter out now, basically... *blushes at Steve the Pirate*. It sure doesn't look that good.

Thanks guys,

I don't have a great deal of experience with page layout (except from playing around with various applications like Scribus and Adobe InDesign). But I'd love to help anyway - they don't look that much different to Photoshop and Illustrator which I am experienced with.

What application are you using?

Oh, and here's another idea I had - I know that plasma isn't really related to quantum computing, but I think it looks cool... And, we would actually be able to use it, as it's a free stock photo, and the quantum computing image before I found on some random website...

I think the first example looks slightly more professional, but they're both very nice. Clean and attractive :)

im excited about this project, i'd love to contribute but i don't really know enough about anything specific in OS dev, so it would be pointless me writing an article on it.

1. It's not just about OSDev... anything related to programming languages, hardware interfaces, whatever.
2. You have an opinion? express it!

We should probably make a Wiki and/or forum about the magazine if it's going ahead, for planning the issues and such... And we should decide on the release schedule and dates (ie. quarterly, monthly, whatever). Or has this already been decided? (I'm still reading through this massive thread).

And I am downloading OpenSolaris at the moment - I'd be able to write a review of that (if it's not outside the scope of the mag).

That wiki sounds like a good idea.

hmmm... ill try and think of something to contribute.

i wrote an in depth article on how to set up a basic graphical program on windows once (for hellboundhackers.org), but it's probably a bit basic for this magazine.

Hi,

I want to write an article too, but I decided to write one after easter sunday and I thought I can write an article for the second issue. I'm also not really sure about the topic I can write about, maybe you know one? I think I have good knowledge about Operating Systems and my OS already works very good. At the moment I'm working on the virtual filesystem (mostly finished), maybe this would be a good topic for my article.

PS: If you agree with the article about VFS please send me an PM, Email or just talk to me in IRC (I'm almost all the time in #osdev on freenode and you should reach me under the nickname janoschg)

Regards, Janosch Gräf

I will write a article too, but i may not make the first issue, you are more than welcome to use my Wep cracking article if you want, edit and rewrite it as you see fit.
Article is here:
http://dex4u.com/DexMag/DexMag1-3.htm

PS: I was thinking about writing a article on how easy it is to recover DATA from ram after rebooting from Windows, using special program written to run on DexOS.
Even after some time has past.

Why don't you guys just do a group blog? Something like http://www.lifehacker.com or http://blog.makezine.com with a stronger focus on programming and system internals.

EDIT: To some degree it would be like osnews before they got so generic.

IIRC, that was brought up earlier, however, it was turned down for some forgotten reason.

I was quite fond of the idea myself.
