As far as I know that allows you to type ASCII commands, of which some are not on the keyboard. I don't know any more about them though.

Check out http://www.asciitable.com/ for a list of them. However, not all of them seem to work on this board...

I should know I use them all the time on the US layout for french assignments...

uhh...home? there's more where those came from but I don't know them by heart. Those above are the only ones I could recall at the moment of the post. I use to have a character map in my Computer Fundamentals class 3 years ago...but god knows where that went.
