ok the way I see you are, your probably best to get a copy of some good, simple linux source, and then modify that code how you like, would make it a lot more simple and satisying most likely
but for the actual topic, make sure your not using C++ because you have to make malloc before you can really do anything in it, but just change your main to _main in your code and if your using C then just make a dummy _alloca it worked for me(I don't remeber how I fixed it to where it dind't do that but anyway it worked)



btw2 I consider anyone that says "pwned" a n00b unless your using with with sarcasim

NB: i havent read more than the first three posts.

I came to this forum some time ago because i had found a "hello world!" bootloader tutorial on the net and thought: "hey! this is easy, im gonna make my own OS so i dont have to deal with this windows/linux crap anymore!"
However, i quickly learned that it ain't that easy.
Make no mistake, im actually very tallentet and fairly intelligent, but im not dedicated enough and i dont have the indept knowledge that i need.
So once in a while i look at a few toturials and manuals and try to figure out the basics; the GDT, IDT, LDT, segments, paging, protected mode, long mode, etc.
Then i come to the point where i think i understand it. kinda...
I then make a few atempts to get something working and then i give up, convinced that i must have an IQ lower than Forrest Gumps...

So take a VERY big step back and ask you self:
1. Do i stand a chance?
2. Am i dedicated enough?
3. Should i use my time on something else? (OS developing takes ALOT of time.)
