Well, After learing C++ today, you CAN make games! But now, only for DOS, but in DOS you get all the cool graphics stuff, but in Windows programming, a long time of programming, you get more up to date stuff. Look at DF's game...it's in DOS. Once you learn DOS, Windows programming is easier. Very Easier, but not easy.

Even when you learn C++,
YOU CAN NOT MAKE A GOOD GAME WITH COOL GRAPHICS IN A COUPLE OF DAYS! IT WILL NOT TAKE YOU 5 MINUTES, DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?? BECAUSE I DON'T THINK YOU DO!
I am just informing you ;D

Takes alot to load a bmp unless you use a pre made graphics lib. Then it's easy.

Hey,
That is what i am trying to say, so you should use something like Allegro.
Good Luck ;D

I'm Just going to add something to post ;D:
It takes a lot of programming if you don't use a game library (Like Allegro) to allow you to put bitmaps on the screen, or even change the resolution of the screen, or even go to full screen mode. But Allegro has all of the functions you need done for you
So i HIGHLY recommend you get it, there is also alot of documentation on it, so it is easy to learn how to use it ;D
I myself use Allegro for Game Programming (Although i haven't dont it in a while)
But ther are also alot of good game engines around, which you only need to learn the game engines scripting language, which makes things much easier. For some Game Engines you don't need to even learn a scripting language!
Think long and hard about this, Do you really want to spend 3 years making your own gaming library, and then start making games, or do you want to start making games using something pre-built like Allegro? The best option for you is to use a Game Library! Unless you want to use 3D (OpenGL is the Best for Beginners, Direct3D isn't very good for beginners) But 3D is out of the question for a beginner in programming ;D
Good Luck ;D

Hey,
You can use allegro as you learn ;D But that is your choice
Allegro is ported to many platforms, there are Windows/Linux/Unix/BeOS ports, i think they also have a DOS Port, i'm not sure though ;D Check it out at
www.allegro.cc
Good Luck Joey ;D
