When 16 is > 16 million

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

That's a mock-up.

I can understand the issue with demanding a higher color count, the moment you attempt to use the OS with any actual real life data you have lying around (particularly images) it's going to go awful very quickly - and you never know how far you'll go, so unless the restriction is the whole point of it, you're better off making room to allow upgrading without breaking much stuff (ideally none at all).

That said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with making the UI itself against a limited palette. May want to choose your own palette when possible though (and seeing as the screenshot is 640×480, that'd require mode 12h which means at least VGA, which also means you can change the palette =P).

Or just because. Seriously, the way he uses that, his favorite verbal combo breaker, is like a nice dash of seasoning thrown into any and all thoughts. Just fascinating.

Anyway, even though I know Brendan said he doesn't really want to talk about this, and I completely understand that, I am super curious about how he was back before he started embracing his current persona. But, of course, I understand the sanctity of letting a man alone with his life as he chooses to live it and not gossiping.

EDIT: Holy crap, Schol-R-LEA, just read that rant you posted on trying to pull apart Swampy's code. Magnifi-fucking-cent.

Looks good!

@Schol-R-LEA, I always wondered, what does the first line of your forum signature mean?

It's sort of a Discordian thing. Schol-R-LEA is more than just a screen name, it is also my holyname.

Sorry for cutting that short earlier. Anyway, the initialisms refer to different cabals and sects I associate with:
  • Last Church of Finagle
  • Erisian Liberation Front
  • Paratheoanametamystichood of Eris Esoteric
  • Justified Ancients of Muumuu
  • Knights of Raoul
  • Knights of the Circular Object
  • Masters of General Tribulation (founded by the real-life analogue of Markoff Chaney after Bob Shea found him and inducted him into the Legion of Dynamic Discord; Do You Believe That?™)
  • Gordian Society
I had to clip MGT and GS due to the 255 character limit. My own cabal (consisting of me, myself, and I) is the "Dr Benway Lives for Your Sins Floating Poker Game Cabal", while my sectual orientation is "The Last Eristic Church of Finagle and Holy Bisexuality".

the ";2" is because I am the second clone of the Red clearance Alpha Complex Troubleshooter Schol from LEA sector, who after getting caught engaging in illegal rutting behavior with two male citizens, one female citizen, and one Doberbot, was given the choice between being sent to the food vats as raw materials, or 'volunteering' in a time-travel experiment. Do You Believe That?™

The last two aren't groups; TGIF means Thank Goddess It's Friday (even if it isn't ), while the other one is there in case anyone is looking for a date ;)

Oh, goody. Let's see what he has to say about me. Hail Eris!

I am particularly amused that he targeted the one person here who declined to talk about him.

Hey, Terry, my request for you to join the festivities at What The Daily WTF? still stands. I'm sure you and Swampy would have quite a conversation. C'mon, your fans are waiting! What a brillant way for you to spread the Turd!

I can never tell with Discordians how serious they take their religion.

Every Discordian I've met has such a healthy sense of sarcastic humour about it that I genuinely can never tell when they're being serious about it and when they aren't.

I'm sorry for the offtopic question. I think movements like Discordianism, neo-naganism, etc. are somehow motivated by nationalism. Like, you're White and deserve to have a European(-inspired) religion--rather than a Middle Eastern one. Do you, as a Discordian, think I am right?

I don't even know how to respond to this. You can't just relate everything to nationality or religion.

WUT.

That makes absolutely zero sense, especially when most neo-pagans are really more influenced by Hinduism, Taoism, and Rinzei Zen Buddhism than the historical religions they claim to be embracing.

If anything, it is mainly a rejection of what is perceived as 'mainstream' (that is, Xtianity - Judaism is mostly ignored, while Islam is considered The Enemy by most people in American and European culture as a matter of habit, one not likely to be broken soon either sadly); race and nationality aren't a factor at all (except for a minority of Asatruar, mainly ones who are deep into 'white power' and specifically embraced Asatru as a 'Nordic' religion; for them, your question would be right on the money, and most other neo-pagans, including most Asatruar, avoid them like the plague). If anything, many would be as likely to embrace Islam as neo-paganism, precisely because it is not Xtianity and is seen as 'exotic', were it not for the geo-political issues.

Well, that and most neo-pagans are women, and Islam is seen as anti-feminist. A lot of neo-pagans are neo-pagans because it is 'feminine empowerment'.

Most neo-pagans like to think that they see nationalism as the evil it actually is (more because they see patriotism as too mainstream than for any real philosophical reasons), and at least pretend that they are somehow above taking race seriously despite the obvious fact that being able to say that race isn't important is itself a form of racial privilege (they are usually aware of this, as they will make that argument against others, but fail to see it in themselves - exceptionalism is a pretty basic human trait - and I will admit that I do the same thing myself).

Mind if I let you in on a little secret? No one takes religion seriously. Not one person in human history has ever believed in the supernatural, especially not the alpha and delta types who came up with the various religions themselves.

What most people do believe is that everyone else around them believes it, and that they would be called no-good-shits if anyone ever found out that they didn't believe.

So they act as if they believe. They go to church/temple/prayers/etc. and make it look like they are devout. They harangue strangers about their faith. They hold inquisitions and crusades. They blow themselves up in crowds of non-believers. All to convince people that they aren't faking it, when in fact, they are. And the ones who do the worst things are the greatest skeptics of all - their 'acts of devotion' fnord are driven solely by the need to prove that they believe something neither they nor anyone else actually do fnord.

Could you guys take this to the auto-delete forum and stop derailing this thread?

Back on topic a bit - I am quite a fan of "minimalistic" designs (hard corners and bold colours) - but having a full 24-bit colourset makes getting the exact shade far easier than having to deal with a fixed palette.

I actually asked the question because I've seen many "White nationalists"--and even national socialists--on the Internet forums embracing these movements. Anders Behring Breivik (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Be ... k#Religion) is a famous example.

Thanks for the enlightenment, though.
