But I still disagree with the inital banning. There's nothing in the rules about certains ways of helping being better or worse or even forbidden. Thats just personal opinion and childish to be upset about.
the problem is, though, that was ***NOT*** the reason he was banned...

as a moderator, i feel it is wrong for me to talk about specific issues that are not already public... these things are kept private, discussed at great length amongst the mods, and in the end, the decision to ban him (i mean both the initial ban and the perm ban) was unanimous.

there were in fact a LOT of reasons for the banning, and NONE of them had ANYTHING at all to do with his posting code. I have known him on these forums since long before the merger, and i supported him for a long time, as i felt he was improving, and starting to mature... but some of his actions simply could not be defended, and left me regretting that support (especially all the times he claimed that i hate him and was trying to destroy him...)

the dex issue was actually discussed at great length for months before any banning took place, and several mods had personal private conversations with him about some of these issues, but instead of learning from them, and improving his conduct, he instead misquoted these messages publicly on the forums and claimed the mods were all attacking him

you will never see any of the real problems he caused, because they were all either deleted, or moved to the moderators-only forum -- if you can find any trace of his actions on the forums now, it means we have all failed in our jobs as moderators

he was NOT banned because of his posting code, even though towards the end, most of that code was in fact not even relevant to the thread being posted on (i think at that point he was trying to get himself banned because it would justify his claims that all the mods hated him and were all out to get him) the honest truth is, if anyone else had done what he did, they would have been banned at least a full year earlier than he was, but specifically because of who he was, and how long he had been a part of this community, and how knowledgeable he was, we let things slide that would have been a clear instant-ban for anyone else... and it was only after we had no further recourse, that he was banned, and his reactions to being banned proved that we could no longer work with him and support him here, and we therefore turned his ban permanent -- i honestly hope that experience has helped him , and that he no longer acts in the same manner

Well explained and on the point. I'll have to gracefully back out on this one since I obviously doesn't have all the facts. Thanks for clearing it up though, I've been mostly inactive since 2007 or so.

=D>

I'm not one to praise, but if anyone were to commit to being a mod of a giant forum, let him be the first person you ask on how it's done correctly.

I got another request from DEX to link you this:

http://dex.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=670

Which contains screenshots of DexOS running on the Rasperry Pi, coded in FasmArm.

Apparently getting screen output was tricker than it sounds, so if any of you use the Rasberry Pi and needs pointers you could ask him on the dex forum.

Anyway, that's it from banned-land today. :)
