Yikes, well I'm in GMT-8, so there's only a six hour difference of sorts! I'm reading the OpenTTD wiki tutorials so I can learn the ropes. Hopefully I can get good at this! :P

It's not difficult to learn how to play, but it takes a while to master. For example, building a bus route isn't difficult (just place down two bus stations and a road depot, build a bus, give it a route, and you're done), but mastering bus routes to give the highest passenger flow at the lowest cost and providing the best service is challenging.

GMT-08 means you're at what, around 7:30 pm at the moment (9:30 AM here)?

4 PM here, so probably 10 AM where you are. I just add six and switch AM<->PM. :)

I just crashed OpenTTD, 2048x2048 map, high town amount, and giant screenshot (that's not a map, that's a freaking veritable country!)

Actually, it doesn't crash on "Giant Screenshot". I did one on 1024x1024 and it took about 10 minutes before it finished and spat out a 300 MB image. And yep - 10 AM :D

In that case, it should be pretty easy to play TTD multiplayer ;)

Nifty, I still need to brush up on my skills. I'm used to Railroad Tycoon II, which is a hell of a lot simpler than this.

No worries - I'm on holidays so I'm up for a game most days. Same goes for pretty much anyone else - just PM me ;)

Whoa, that's fun. Train crashes are evil. MagLev trains are great fun.

I hate you all. I have the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe, and completely forgot about this game, to the point that I didn't even realize what TTD stood for. I've also never heard of OpenTTD before, but that's all changed now... I played the game for like 8 hours last night. Ended up going to bed at 3am only because I was frustrated with my trains always crashing. I guess some signals and more tracks would help with that. :)

quok: I just started last night and I quickly figured out I need to double-track my stations and layout for maximum effectiveness.

In other news, I have two weeks off for the holidays starting now!! Woot!

OrOS: I'm still learning, but when I get better Matt and I will probably play over the net, so I guess you could join us!

Damn. You've got me addicted now too. Has anyone seen Startrek: TNG episode "The Game"? :P

I keep crashing my trains - I really can't get the hang of this signal thing, despite reading the openTTD wiki. I'm also getting a bit anal about trying to create a new bus route every time it says there's a subsidy - my funds can't keep up though :(

Cheers,
Adam

Oops! I'm sooo sorry to get you all addicted! </sarcasm>

Seriously, it's way too much fun isn't it? AJ - signals are a pain to get right but there's nothing like the satisfaction from seeing all your trains move through the system smoothly!

My trains are like evil little buggers. And how do I get them running on separate tracks but servicing at the same depot? It just ain't working...

Sometimes the pathfinding can't figure out how to make it to the depot if the depot is on a seperate track (even though there's crossover tracks that'll allow trains to get in). It can be quite frustrating, but the easiest solution is just to build a depot per track.

Of course, it's not always the most effective solution, but it works - KISS is a nice philosophy to follow ;)
