Half of me thinks that it would be a horrendous idea for you two to join forces as you both are learning the basics (from what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong). But the other side of me thinks that maybe two learners will speed up the process.
But side 1 wins as even if it is a possibility, working together over the Internet complicates things exponentially.
