If the Dalai Lama rule was so bad, and the Beijing rule is such a paradise, why are the people of Tibet revolting?

But this is completely OT. I feel for the people killed, injured, and made homeless in the earthquake. Just like I feel for people suffering anywhere.

@ lollynoob:

While we're honing our prejudices, should I take a guess at where you are from?
Do you see the people of Tibet revolting? That's delict, not revolting.
You definitely have to look beyond your media tell a lie and propaganda.
In fact, the Chinese Communist give the Tibet's people boon more than the Han nationality.
You don't know the fact. If you try to know it, welcome to Tibet travel.

There's the propaganda for you. Rather typical I might add.

This came along in one of the childs cartoons with the better plots. This is the bad guy speaking:
Sozin: (proud) Our nation is enjoying an unprecedented time of peace and wealth. Our people are happy, and we're so fortunate in so many ways.
Roku: (growing more concerned) Where are you going with this‌
Sozin: I've been thinking. We should share this prosperity with the rest of the world. In our hands is the most successful empire in history. It's time we expanded it.
I should add that he later tried to wipe an entire race off the face of the earth. Adolf Hitler made the same claim of progress, then went on to kill all jews he could get to.

"Wir haben es nicht gewußt"

Edit: I put in one more quote then I'll leave the matter.
I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.

No, I am not welcome to travel in Tibet. Since March 1st, foreigners are not allowed to enter Tibet.

That alone smacks so much of censorship that even you should start smelling the fish.

Try going to the Tibet entry on Wikipeia.

Because you live in the country that is controlling it, and that country has the control of information, obviously you can only know what you are told. Revolts are happening, and we get this information from the media, yes, but there is real footage and we receive this info from many places. Infact, there are many cries that the U.S. should not attend the Olympics because of this.

China just needs to be OK with itself and stop this whole Tibet business.

I strongly believe that sport and politics shouldn't mix, ever.

Carrying the olympic torch is a high honor, as is participating in the Olympics. Depending on your event, you only get that chance once or twice in an athlete's live, and I don't think anyone who hasn't been a competitive athlete himself could fathom what it means to have your one best shot at an Olympic medal be destroyed by f**king politics.

Unfortunately it's not as easy as that, either. But no matter what the right thing to do may be, shooting at people and evicting foreigners to avoid eye-witnesses isn't it.

I agree. I didn't say that we should, just that there are cries (not by me however).
People climbing on the Golden Gate bridge to hang signs saying "Free Tibet". Hmmm...

Exactly, and they're lying about the death tolls.

I've told you already in another thread; I'm a stereotypical conservative American, and I'm proud of it.

Edit: Thanks Zacariaz, that was pretty much the point I was getting at.

I tend to forget such things, as I attempt not to have my behaviour towards people influenced by where they come from etc.

Thanks for reminding me why that is necessary...

Oh stop being passive-aggressive about it and just say you hate Americans just as much as I hate arrogant foreigners, and let's be done with it.

There's nothing wrong with hating America or stereotypical Americans. They (the aforementioned parties) have done absolutely nothing to make anyone else like them whatsoever. That's why pretty much all Americans can't really go to certain places in the world without an escort.

Blanketly hating all Americans (or of any country) is something I don't agree with however. I know several Americans who I like very much.

EDIT:
I'm a stereotypical conservative American, and I'm proud of it.
You're stereotypical? So you're a cowboy hat-wearing, arrogant jock fratboy whose mother is also his sister? (Because that's what the stereotype is in my country...)

'Conservative' as in no-gay-marriage, we-need-a-massive-military-to-look-manly, the-earth-was-made-in-144-hours conservative? Oh, and, Go McCaine!

Pretty much all? I'm American, and I have learned a lot from my parents about how things work. I think that I'd be fine. But I'll stop taking this personally and say that most Americans are idiots (they elected and re-elected) G.W.Bush. However, not all Americans are that dumb nor fall into that stereotype.
