Hateful computer usage

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Which is the idea of it, kind of.

Ergonimocally (and to avoid damage do your back, eyes, and hands), you should work max. 45 minutes of every hour staring at the screen, then have a break for 15 minutes.

A standing desk helps you to remember that, and puts less stress on your lower back.

At the office here I have a convertible desk, which I can pull up and stand at, or push down and sit. Great thing.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

After all this years using computers, my eyes always hurts me all the time...

Get them tested. Often with computer users, it's something as simple as dry eye which makes your eyes uncomfortable. This is easily dealt with in most cases and is down to the fact that people don't blink as much when concentrating on a VDU.

Alternatively, if you are hypermetropic (long sighted), the focussing mechanism in your eyes becomes slower over time. Even if you have been able to control this well in the past, it may be getting more difficult. Eye problems are very rarely due to computer use - but prolonged VDU use may exacerbate a problem which you are already predisposed to.

Anyway - if you ever have uncomfortable eyes, get it checked. Particularly if that problem remains even when you are no longer using the computer.

Cheers,
Adam
