anyway, i have looked at the link, and browsed intels site a bit and it dont seem that the manuals or the shipping costs anything, however it is not written that it is free either...
Normaly in such a situation i wouldnt assume that it was free and i wont now either, enless you can guaranti it... (if you dare
)
Follow this link:

Please make sure to include in your mailed/emailed request:
SKU #
Company Name
Your Name (first, last)
Full mailing address
Daytime Phone Number in case of questions
You probably want all of these SKU's
(SKU #253665)
(SKU #253666)
(SKU #253667)
(SKU #253668)
(SKU #253669)
(SKU #248966)
(SKU #D91561)
(SKU #318147)
Thats what I did and a few days later I had a large box full of books show up at my workplace.
Yes, thank you, but that link have allready been posted. The only problem is with whether its free or not. You can get me to believe that the manuals them selves are free, but free shipping?
Ill probably give it a go anyway, but it would be kinda annoying with an unexpected bill for the shipping, which is probably going to be substancial.

No firm would ever do any unprofitable business. Either the charges for printing and distributing are insignificant compared to the overall huge returns or, since it's some kind of free educational material, they could be benefitting from tax reductions (just an idea), or both.

Maybe Intel's turned Non For Profit?
But seriously though, they're a multi-billion dollar corporation, so the cost of printing the manuals is probably insignificant to them. Besides, their main product they are trying to sell are their processors, so their logic behind giving out their developer manuals for free is probably: give out free manuals -> easier for people to write software -> more software for their processors -> more people want their processors/higher demand -> more processor sales.

@MessiahAndrw: How long did postage take (which Australian city are you in, as well)?
And were there any hidden costs (such as a bill for postage or something weird like that)?
Edit: Is it a mailing bot or a human-read email? Do I just throw in, for example:
Or do I need to send an email per SKU?

But what did they say, would they ship them to you in january then or would you have to write another mail around january?

Thank you for you interest in the Software Manuals. The manuals will
not be available until after December of this year. Please check with
us after January 1, 2008. You may obtain a downloadable version by
going to
http://developer.intel.com/products/pro ... /index.htm.
Thank you,
Intel Support
Looks like I'll have to email again in January.

I took around a week from when I sent the e-mails to when I had them in my hand. I was living in Adelaide at the time.

Nope! A mail-man comes to the door with a cardboard box, you sign for it, he gives you the box, then he drives away.

I sent one e-mail per SKU, and I left a blank line for the company. I'm not sure if it's a bot or a human at the other end.

ill probably request another copy then first of the year...
most likely the reason is because they are updating the print versions... they usually stop shipping for a few months just before a big update
and as i recall... they arrive very quickly (of course that may depend on where you live...)
i have ordered the full five book set several times, and never been charged anything at all (they dont even ask for a method of charging you...)
yes, these are completely free -- intel feels that without giving this information, it wouldnt have as many people using them, and thus lose on CPU sales -- besides, intel has always been very good at giving out as much information as possible free of charge to anyone who wants it
