Well, the thread seems to be quite focused on abstracting the hardware away, and someone actually went as far as to say:
The whole point of an operating system is provide an api that's independant of the hardware beneith,
My previous was simply a hint based on my differing personal opinion.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies.

If you quoted the part you were responding to in the first place, it would have saved us some confusion. :)
Top three reasons why my OS project died:
  1. Too much overtime at work
  2. Got married
  3. My brain got stuck in an infinite loop while trying to design the memory manager
