Yes you can! Write a windows virus that will replace Windows with Linux.

I doubt you could download and install a 5 GB distro in the background, but I doubt most novice users would notice a 50MB Damn Small Linux image downloading in the background while they're checking their e-mail, then overwriting their boot sector and forcing their PC to reboot.
Why would I want to switch them to Linux... ? :?

Sure it might be the lesser of two evils.. but I would probably think of something more creative.

In all actuality writing a virus(trojan?..) that switches someones OS is probably more science fiction then fiction. (And probably against some imaginary laws of some country...)

There have been viruses which exploit remote procedure calls in Windows to spread across a network, so why cannot the virus be a background Linux (or any OS of your choice) downloader?

Because that fault has been fixed on every computer that could still be exploited... should have thought of that before hand.

That would be one cool virus, but it is highly unlikely, the virus itself would b 5 mb and the os could be as little as 1k(but w/Linux more like 250-500MB for small install)

I would try that if 1 it wasn't illegal 2 i could write viruses, i never tried so i cant(at least yet)

I was here lookin 4 a small job but i dont want to work for ne1 who knows nothing about what is going on!

you could install a 5GB distro. If you hack into the windows update website and replaced an update with the distro.........the download would install...........you could make it look like windows....and on, and on..........

Change the address of Windows Update to point to your server. Then I'm sure any user (besides those on dial-up) wouldn't mind waiting for a 50-100MB update to download, install, and reboot.

I don't know what human-kind did to upset the writer of Linux, but it must have been pretty bad for him to inflict that on them.
