You made the age old mistake of missing the limits of meanings. Not quite as bad as the classic difference between Realism and Pessimism misunderstanding, but annoying none the less. Point being, Close Mindedness and not believing obvious bullshit do not go hand in hand. I would not class someone who doesn't believe everything i say to them as close minded, especially when what i say is obvious fiction.Alboin wrote:You punched God, did you? That's awesome. Just awesome. I'm sorry. You're very focused on not believing anything, aren't you? 'Tis a pity. You might want to try to be a little more open.Tyler wrote:I punched God the other day and my fist went right through him though, strange, almost like God is a fictional being... no... it couldn't be. There is no way a being made up by men to control other men is not real, by definition the fact that raving lunatics made him up must make him real.
PS: It's not nice to call the founders of Christianity, Judaism, etc. "raving lunatics". That's generally frowned upon. In fact, I think somewhere in the Old Testament some kids were mocking Isaiah, so God sent she-bears to eat them.....Yeah...
You put too much faith in science. Science lies, cheats, and deceives. I think, in time, science will support Christianity. At the moment, however, science is obviously mistaken in several key areas.Tyler wrote:You made the age old mistake of missing the limits of meanings. Well, thanks for apologizing for calling Christ a raving lunatic, but now your calling me one.Tyler wrote:Also i apologise for my terrible wording, i did not mean to imply that the people who made up the stories were raving lunatics, only those who adopted the stories as reality.
It is entirely possible that an overly ambitious scientist could cheat and lie, but I don't see how that can be laid at the door of science itself. I don't think it is the job of science to support or oppose Christianity; its job is to investigate the physical universe. (Although there are still those atheists who cling to the idea that science has "disproved" religion, or who live in the hope that it will do so.)Alboin wrote: You put too much faith in science. Well, for example, creation. Okay. The Bible says the universe was created in 7 days and that God created man. (Albeit, the first 4 weren't really days, and could have been billions of years, but nevertheless.) Science says that man came from some slop in the ground. I think, because I believe the Bible more than science, that the Bible is true. Therefore I believe that science, being the study of truth, will eventually stumble upon this, because by definition, it will find the truth. When they do, if they ever do, it will then support Christianity.mathematician wrote:It is entirely possible that an overly ambitious scientist could cheat and lie, but I don't see how that can be laid at the door of science itself. This had better not become an in house debate between Christians, but I would say that the Bible is true in the sense that it was meant to be true. It talks about the relationship between the Creator and his creation; not about the physical processes which led to the emergence of life. Admittedly the nature of those processes is a complete mystery, but physical processes there must have been, unless you imagine a hand coming down out of the sky to plant the first human beings on earth.Alboin wrote:Well, for example, creation. It's almost sad. Like, Darwin. The guy spent his life trying to enhance his theory. Yet, he's so, so wrong. I almost feel sorry for him, he could've spent his life playing ping-pong and would have been more productive.
Ooh i have to rephrase again... Christ did not start Christianity in the sense that he didn't write the bible. The Bible of course was written some few hundred years after his life by people who never met him. Obviously Christ was a Raving Lunatic, i'm sure you would think the same of me if i attempted to convince you that my old man was God and that my Moral Believes were some how Universal.Alboin wrote: Well, thanks for apologizing for calling Christ a raving lunatic, but now your calling me one.
Matt 10:33 - "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."Tyler wrote:Obviously Christ was a Raving Lunatic
It can be shown without too much difficulty that all three of the synoptic Gospels had been written by AD114 at the latest. John was probably written at the end of the first century/beginning of the second.Tyler wrote:Ooh i have to rephrase again... Nice... no worrying about having to go to heaven for me, i hope hell really is like playing Doom for eternity.Alboin wrote:Matt 10:33 - "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."Tyler wrote:Obviously Christ was a Raving Lunatic
I would think you were either a raving lunatic, or possessed of an ego the size of a football stadium, and probably both. Unless you could convince me otherwise. That certainly wouldn't be easy, but depending upon the veracity of your claim it wouldn't necessarily be impossible. Do you think that the strict monotheists of first century Judaism would have been easy to convince?Tyler wrote:Ooh i have to rephrase again... Sorry .I could've sworn this thread was dead...
Do you know her too??I don't believe in god, but I do believe in a goddess.
She's that blonde with the big boobs living next door. I'd worship her anytime.
I don't think science is less realistic than religions... And I don't think science will support Christianity, their ideas are too different. You put too much faith in science. You think i am a lunatic because i don't beleive fiction? You really should research the current definition of lunatic. And my ego has nothing todo with this, i'm sure you would think anyone who claimed to be the son of god was crazy, not just me.mathematician wrote:I would think you were either a raving lunatic, or possessed of an ego the size of a football stadium, and probably both.
