I am getting pretty mad lately trying to find a host that will allow me to upload a .zip file. Every free host I have gone to so far either has a tiny amount of bandwidth, (like geocities) or else doesn't allow .zip .exe or .img files to be uploaded.
I had found one before but they deleted my files.. SO....
PLEASE? Anyone already hosted by a good free host, or know of one?
hosting for my OS?

250mb of space and 5gb of monthly bandwidth.
They do not allow exe files. Has an individual file size limit of 500kb.
or

100mb of space and ? amount of monthly bandwidth.
They allow all files.

Ahh well, you can have 1 GB webspace with unlimited bandwith at yourname.hostuju.cz (sorry no domain support allowed, only this subdomain), I think that absolutely NO FILE LIMITS are existing ! So you can upload from .TXT to .ISO, XYZ MB long. MySQL 5, PHP 5 and FTP are the certainity, you can be sure.
It is in czech language, if you want I can create a hosting for you. Just send me a PM if you want.
Aren't hostings in foreign land/language more cooler?
//EDIT:
You maybe noticed that I put this text in bbcode. You surely know why.
//EDIT:
They allow all extensions. I tried to copy a 43 MB wad file, then, a 20 MB .GRP file and it worked. So you can be really sure that EXE, ZIP and any other will work.

Code: Select all
They require that you will put onto your site a text-panel with ads or standard graphic banner. If your site isn't very suspicious (warez,very much visitors per day,etc), they wouldn't know it. If they do, they will delete your account; so I suggest to make a backup on your disk. :)

hosting
Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying out www.freehostingnow.com for now. As for bandwidth I guess a couple GIG's a month would be alright as I can't see too many people visiting it other than for curiousity or for some coding examples. The ISO I have so far is only about 2 or 3 megs in size (uses ISOLINUX to boot a disk image similar to how FreeDOS does it).
Also, regarding google code hosting I will look into that but they seem to have a requirement that your code be GPL. I will probably just be issuing my source as Public Domain, but I guess that might be okay for them too.
For now, so long as kube.freehostingnow.com doesn't stop hosting .zip files I should be okay.

I highly doubt they require source code to be GPL licenced, Last time I checked a lot of Googles "own" projects are released on a modified BSD-like licence
If you were using "GPL" as a generalized term for "open source", Please don't do that again
But yes, I don't think they offer hosting for projects that are "closed source"..

Re: hosting
Yeah freehostingnow.com looks like a good hosting site. However be very careful and make sure to keep backups of everything that you put up there. They just had a huge crash and lost everything http://www.freehostingnow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23.kubeos wrote:Thanks for the replies.

backups
I am a paranoid guy when it comes to backups. I keep copies on two cd's , my USB thumb drive, and a backup dir on my dev computer. I had another backup on another USB drive but I had to use it for something else. If I had a safe I'd keep a cd with backups on it in there as well. I'm soooo scared of losing 3 years of blood, sweat, and tears.
Anyone else keep loads of backups?
