I'm not talking about fan-noise. It's about constant, or at least varies much slower. I'm talking about the noise that the capacitors on my MOBO make when processor is drawing power... or some such..

edit: it's much more quiet than the fan-noise, but I've got classically trained ears (from playing violin) plus I play around with audio signal processing and stuff, so something doesn't need to be loud for me to hear it.
Then why do you need it, i think the fan noise gives it away :-P

Indeed. I had to buy a new fan for my PC because it produced weird sounds, like chainsaw ( ). So I buyed a ArcticCooling Silent fan for my CPU, builded it in almost 1 hour (got to tear off the socket fan holder things), installed, turned on the PC and ..... the fan produced still the weird chainsaw sound :D .... so I buyed a standard fan for my motherboard, installed - and voila, PC is quiet ;)

Happy Easter holidays wishes

Hi everyone,
expect a new version of PortixOS 0.4 after 2 weeks or so. This will be the pre-release 3 (with partial RSFS file system support) and a last pre-release version. After this there will be a big pause in the development (school stuff), and, after that - 0.4 full version may expect to release. ;)

PortixOS will be *always* freeware.
But you know that developing of this OS costs money and if you like my project and want to keep it alive, you can donate by clicking at any ad (only once!) at my site. Thank you.

We try to maintain a little professionalism in here. Lets not clutter it with requests for donations, although I think you're kernel is neat I do not think it warrants the need for collection of money.

Why did you not just include a message like this on you're own site instead of targeting the forum users to help you with this scheme?
What valid reason would you have to collect money for this project besides the broad and general statement that it costs money to work on the kernel?

This sub forum is called, "Project Announcements & Test Requests". Not my sad story of why I need money to develop a real mode operating system.

It's not a request for donation. It's a request for us to click on an add on his web site. It doesnt't cost you anything, really. Although, I do agree that it might not belong on here in such a blatant way. Now, maybe if you hid it in a larger post.....

Inflater: Are you sure your speed test is real? It links to http://inflaters-site.info/speedtest.png, which is weird since Speedtest saves the image on their server for you to link directly to. And not to mention the different font.
My OS is Perception.

His is clearly fake.. It's actually quite sad how poorly done his is..

EDIT: Removed 2015: Imageshack replaced all links with spam.

As you can see the font's don't match, The top image in the picture is real.. Inflaters below is fake.

It's almost as lame as his other topic where he shows a screenshot of an application running on Windows claiming it's the real GUI for his operating system.

Sad really

Yes, it is a fake, do you saw a 1,5 Mbit/s connection with that test results ?... It was meant for 1st April fools day, I forgot that in my PC. Can't take a joke? Do anybody has a internet connection with 150 Mbit/s (153600 kbps) download-speed?

The quality of MSPAINT.EXE, currently I'm learning in photoshop.

I'm not claiming that really *is* a GUI for my OS. I am just saying that this *may* be a GUI sometime. And it is not a Windows application ;) - MS-DOS.

I better remove that speed test image before somebody gets upset from a false picture. :)

Reincarnation of this topic:
I haven't developed PortixOS for a bit longer time now. PortixOS 0.4 pre-release II wasn't the last beta version, though. I will sometime release PortixOS 0.4 pre-rel 3, because the full version will come after a long break. Got to study to school and no time for OS dev.

The future GUI screenshot as it was on this forum somewhere, wasn't false. It was not really a Windows application - as long I make PortixOS using Borland Pascal 7 (DOS-like) and it doesn't need the presence of MS-BO$$, I planned to convert that pure DOS application suitable as a part of PortixOS kernel. But GUI, alias PortixOS 0.5, is far, far away...
