Dex is leaving, this forum
I am leaving this forum, I see the desktop OS as DEAD and my true Web OS views are not welcome. I will go away and make lots of money, instead of helping fallow OS dev's.
So i will turn DexOS into the best true web OS there is, you still all have time, to see the light, do not be sheep.
Even M$ is dead: http://www.paulgraham.com/microsoft.html
PS: Dex has left the building.

is it just me, or have I never heard of anyone complaining about his web Os thing?
in fact, I never even knew you crossed the line between desktop and web
btw right now, I don't think that a web OS would be feasible, our internet is not yet fast enough(especially my dialup!lol). eventually though, a smart idea

The entire concept is lame.. You need an OS anyway to "View" the WebOS..
How any serious "Assembly" developer could change paths to develop a.. What? Javascript/CSS + Dynamic webscript.. "FakeOS" ?
I fail to see the logic...
But, Have fun... be sure to "spend your dollar wisely..".. big money and all..

The idea has some merit, such as storing data, but the aspect of a complete operating system through a web browser is somewhat ridiculous. Javascript, AJAX (Not a language per say, but nonetheless.), HTML, CSS, PHP, etc. are all greatly flawed. The internet wasn't meant to be used as a way to transparently run dynamic applications. It was meant as a communication method of information. To display data. Yet, people keep adding more and more garbage to this stew of horrible technologies. Until there is a universal dynamic client and server language, the idea of complex web applications for general use is dead.
Just my thought on the subject...

I am really sorry to see you are yet to get off this train to no where Dex. It is unfortuante that so many important industry leaders have also fallen victim to the misconception that Web Services and the like are a "wave of the future". I can see how mixing internet technologies with an Operating System could be incredibly useful in a time after this current phase, but for now, i just see a huge trainwreck when the market coems to a stand still in only a few short years. I am also sorry to see you go when you have so much to offer to real OS Development.

I'm sure Dex has left before. I thought he was gone and then the other day he started replying to posts...
All I have is a wimpy 56 KB/s (512kbs internet). I want cable, but I need to find an unlimited plan that costs less than $100 (all I have to do is wait 5 or 6 years ).
I remember trying to download 20 MB on dialup. I used a download manager and did it in an hour. Now 20 MB takes 4 minutes (and that seems like forever).
I just wish Australia would hurry up and catch up with the rest of the world in internet speeds.
I also wish I could find a Gigabit ethernet card.
Now that I have finished my wish-list...
(I am extremely tired).
