Is Hacking Wrong?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Hacking

Post by com1 »

Actually, people are hired by the government for the sole purpose of hacking.
You can go as far as having full control of the system-but don't dare touch any of the users property. If you know the user wouldn't mind you hacking just for hacking, than i think its OK
oh microsoft, microsoft, what souls you have dismayed

In Argentina, you can hack (destroy, break on) any of their webs. Why? Because their law protects only "humans, animals and things". ;)

I know this has been said many times by now, but (hacking != cracking && hacking != script kiddie). Hacking is not even necessarily "breaking" into someone's computer, but it is the "mastery" of a certain topic (i.e. computers, phone "phreaks"). The general public is largely biased toward the hacker culture as a whole, thinking that they are all people who enjoy wreaking havoc on other people's computers. One of the main rules that hackers used to abide by was that other hackers, governments, or organizations were fair game, and the "civilians" were off-limits. The spammers, crackers, script kiddies, and pedophiles of the internet have given hackers a bad name. Some people are called hackers simply because they write great code, or come up with brilliant ideas; not because they find a way to exploit the latest M$ patch or SQL database.

Well thats a long enough rant for now... hope I got my point across.
