How to become mod

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

How to become mod

Post by frank »

I was just wondering what it would take to become a mod. I would like to be able to help with some of the spam.

Thanks for your time,
Frank

To become a moderator, you have to travel to the darkest forest, and bring back a ring of power. After giving it to chase, and defeating the dark master's dragon you will then become a moderator, but don't forget to equip the moderator's sword of spamage. Otherwise, you'll still be a normal user.

Does that help?

Being active in the community helps, as does staying on everyone's good side. You'll also notice that a lot of the moderators have post counts in excess of 1000 or more (whether or not they've changed that to suit their ego is another thing :D)

You can count on none of the mods changing the post count or being caught posting irrelevant messages in a thread to just up the count. If there's one thing that counts on this forum, it's reputation, not "member/rookie status" or "post count". If you're the screamer that knows nothing, they'll know within 10 posts. If you're the smart guy that knows what you're talking about - and a lot more, they'll know within perhaps 30. If you're the guy that's just in it for the post count, they'll know within a hundred (if only because of the sheer number of posts you tend to produce then...).

Active community participation is pretty much a requirement. If you're not there - what'll you do as a mod? Staying on everyone's good side is optional and disrecommended (since being a mod does mean being able to take and keep a stance), but nevertheless a good starting point. I needn't tell you about a number of past occasions in which half the mods were against various forum members because of their behaviour or attitude.

Just a small catch - you won't become a mod by asking. There's a fat chance that you'll almost disqualify yourself that way. You can become a mod when the community appears to need a new mod (from the perspective of the current mods & administrator) and by being the top candidate at that moment. In general, just be a good member and you might be a moderator.

Did you get the secret emblem from the old sage in Langorun, and use it to get past the evil thorns in the north west section of the forest? I believe the ring is several yards past there, and to your left. It's in a pedestal of gold, so you shouldn't miss it.

(This isn't technically off-topic, because the topics over, right?)

O... on the LEFT  , that map helps, but it's taken a many moons because the wizard of the north had me get the holy thread in exchange for the staff of fire to defeat the evil thorns!

p.s. you should make your own RPG!

I've tried, and every time I lose motivation to continue onward, because I am often much too lazy to make dozens of little animated characters, and I remember that my musical talent is about that of a dead squirrels. I just enjoy the programming. :)

Edit: Speaking of animated characters, look: Here!
Aren't they pretty? I made them myself!

Your best bet, if you want to be a mod, is kiss the mods *****, for a number of years and if you do that and your top of list, when they need a new mod, you may be picked .

Ohhhhhhhh... now he tells us the important details. I was too busy trying to figure out why on earth the grass was green with no detail and the sky was pure blue with some cloud sprites painted on top. Turns out it was a Windows Paint job after all :(.

I tried to make an RPG once, I lost interest after the first room was done :D.

I just opened the fridge door, and the self on the inner door with all mum's eggs on it just came off and fell on the floor.. Hopefully she won't notice..

Anyway.. I tried writing an 2d tilebased RPG engine once for Windows (called Arpeagee).. I made it fully scriptable through LUA. It was cool while it lasted, then I lost interest because my 13 year old cousin complained how my API was too complex (i.e. "AllowObjectEntryFromSide(Object1, Left, false);").
My OS is Perception.
