os installation on portable computer

Post by octavio »

I have buy a portable computer: compaq armada m300 with windows 2000 and some malware (is a 2º hand computer) It is possible to reinstall
windows (without cd installation disk but i have the serial number) to leave some disk space for another os?
or it is possible to resize the ntfs partition using fips?
wich linux version runs better on this computer with a lucent winmoden?

I also tested Octa OS booting from floppy,
the cd rom (in the dockstation) is not detected ,i presume is not a atapi device ,what can it be?
also the pointing device or external ps2 mouse don´t work

does other portable computers have this kind of problems?

I reply myself
I will delete the win2000 and install linux

>the cd rom (in the dockstation) is not detected ,i presume is not a atapi
is atapi and sometimes works, so it is my driver problem.
>also the pointing device
works after changing the bios settings

Hi,

Sorry - looks like I am a bit to late if you have already formatted your HD, but if you wanted to have another OS running alongside your existing one, you could always try Virtual PC 2004.

I run this on my Windows 2000 box, and have several virtual machines installed, including Windows 98, linux and, of course, the latest build of my hobby OS.

Hope this helps in some vague way :)

Cheers,
Adam
