Hey !
I've been working on Aster, an original x86_64 operating system built on the Limine C template. While boot infrastructure is external, the kernel, drivers, filesystem (ext2), libc, shell, and utilities are all written from scratch.
What I'm most proud of:
· Nano Toolchain: It has its own C99 subset compiler (ncc), assembler (nas), and linker (nld), allowing you to compile C code inside the OS. (See the attached photo of it compiling and running hello.c on a real Lenovo laptop). · Networking: Original PCI drivers (e1000, RTL8139) and a full TCP/IP stack (DHCP, DNS, TCP with congestion control, UDP, ICMP) in the kernel. It can even run an HTTP server. · Low Footprint: The whole system boots and runs on incredibly low RAM (I've tested it with as little as 128MB). · Real Hardware: Validated on actual hardware, not just QEMU.
The GitHub repo is in the first comment.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Happy to answer any questions about the TCP stack, writing the Nano compiler, or the ext2 implementation!
