It's not in the portage tree, so I doubt I will use it. :P

Just kidding, AFAIK it's going to ship along with Vista, so then I'll have time enough to try it out once and then. Maybe it'll remove my need for firefox under windows, but that still doesn't affect my browsing habits under linux.

cheers Joe

I installed it about a month or two ago, and IMHO, its terrible. It does do transparent PNGs, but it messes up a lot of CSS and stuff. A lot of pages that render flawlessly look bad in IE7.

This is because they actually fixed the IE CSS errors, that means that any previous hacks used to make CSS look correct for IE6 should remove unless you want it to look screwy in IE7.

Yeah, seems kind of surprising that they have never done this to date.
Wonder why?

Perhaps because the feature is overrated? It's the first thing I deactivated in my Mozilla installation, because I don't want a list of previous downloads sticking around on my desktop long after the last one finished...
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

OK, let me put this way: they have to add a better method of continutig a interrupted downlaod (this is someting IE can't go most of times)... Other features of download managers is not so important. ;)

i hate firefox download manager. having to clear it all the time, everything is being saved on a predefined location etc..
it sucks.. i mean, how often do you really download more then maybe 3 files at the same time anyway?

I wouldna care about downloading more than one at a time either. In this I agree with you, bubach. But I like the predef'd loco for downloads. You tell Firefox to put all downloads to /opt/downloads f. ex. (that's in the preferences page/tab "downloads" and from thereon, everything you download, you find in that folder. No need to answer all the "where do you want to save the file?" questions one is used to from IE.

Also, you can tell firefox to clear the download list upon browser-shutdown iirc. That's an option in the security tab/tab download history. You can tell firefox to either delete the entry ater each succeeded download, upon shutdown or per manes.

There's also an option to tell firefox not to pop up the download manager window.

In the view of these possibility to tweak it, I do not approve "I hate ..:" stuff.
stay safe.

I like the download manager in Firefox, except that whenever I pause files and then resume them, it doesn't download any more. If it had working pause and resume, and you could pause, exit firefox, and then resume later, that would be awesome.

IIRC, resuming downloads already worked - some time ago. But now it's broken for strange reasons... ???

to me firefox is much more secure; more extendible; works for nearly every popular os so no having to try to do something then think "oh yea im not using IE"; firefox has a download manager; firefox supports themes which im pretty sure IE don't; firefox i think renders perfectly using the standard; firefox lets you import settings from other browsers, IE don't and microsoft wishes you wouldn't use anything else; and im sleepy
